What's the difference between a single and double action trigger?

Hey guys, I was just about to order a couple more guns for my airsoft collection. One of the ones I am going to order is a co2 powered beretta. I thought I would get some extra info on it, and I found out it has a single action and double action trigger. What exactly does this mean? Is it anything significant to the performance of the gun? I would really appreciate any help.
