Fitting the Magpul PTS MOE Motor Plate

I'm installing this item onto my CA M15. When I screw on the motor plate, it pushes the motor too far up into the mechbox and makes a loud high pitched whirring noise when I fire. I assumed that the motor was pushed too far up into the mechbox.

I contacted my retailer and they gave me some instructions which said that I needed to drill out the hole where the adjustment gizmo in the center of the motor plate is 'cause that diameter is too small for the motor to sit into. I've got it to the point that the circular protrusion on the motor will go all the way into the adjustment hole in the plate.

Then, I had to dremel away at the fins and plastic that the motor wires route around when installed to make more space for the wires.

After all this, the motor still sounds like it's getting jammed too far into the mechbox.
Has anyone come across this installation issue and do you have any advice on getting it to fit?

These photos show what I've done so far to the motor plate:

Did you try it without the motor plate or not screwing it all the way in?

I installed it with the motor plate not all the way in and it works, but I'd rather get it so that it's installed properly. I go by the sound that the motor makes when fired in semi.

I don't want to risk stripping any gears if the motor isn't properly set in place in the mechbox.

I asked airsoftextreme and they said that they have seen guys who have removed the front fin to get it to work, but I haven't seen any photos. Most of the dremelling of the plastic in the motor plate is to make space for the wire routing. The part on the PTS that the motor sits into is a larger diameter than the original CA one.

Last, last resort that I can think of is to dremel off those fins and then gradually grind down that plastic part that the motor sits on until the motor sits/sounds properly.

BTW, what are the resulting damage when a motor is too far into the mechbox and making that high pitched sound and what is the possible damage when the motor is not far up into the mechbox enough? In my haste, I removed the adjustment screw on the original CA motor plate, so I had to gauge the "proper sound" from memory.

I say you just get a new grip before you fuck your gears or motor up.

Buy new or used. Buy a MAGPUL MIAD, I have one and love it.

Don't bother ruining the one you're trying to use, as well as you AEG at the same time.

Shit, I'll sell you a grip.

Where is the motor height adjustment bolt? (will post pic later) On the magpul motor plates their is a large screw that fits into the very large hole on your motor plate, adjust that bolt all the way back and see if you have the same problem.

What motor are you using? My Systema motor didnt sit on that motor plate as well as stock TM plate.

Did you buy the Full Magpul MIAD grip kit or grip that your motor plate is designed to fit into.

Do you think that the MIAD MOE grips are dimensionally out of spec?
just to be clear... this motor plate is going onto the Magpul MIAD MOE PTS grip - the grip that doesn't have replaceable backstraps.

I've heard that this problem is a known issue and magpul out out a second version, but I don't know if the MOE or the MIAD came first.

Did you install the MIAD onto a CA M15? and did it fit right out of the box?

I took the adjustment scew out while I was modding the plate. I don't even need to install the screw as the motor gets pushed too far into the mechbox without the screw. The fins and the plastic that I've been dremelling on the motor plate is just too high it seems.

The motor is a CA M15A4 OEM motor. This AEG is old - 4 or 5 years old.

Little confused...

Just went to airsoftextreme.com and looked up MIAD.

There are 3 versions - MIAD MOE ($28.99), MIAD ($36), MIAD Kit ($60)

I got the MOE version. Should I have gotten the MIAD version?

The regular and older MIAD (not the complete kit) was the one that had problems before, and it was because there wasn't clearance for one of the wires to attach to the motor. The MIAD complete kit was fixed of this problem, and the recent regular MIAD was supposed to be as well. The MOE doesn't have the same fins on the inside of the motor plate as the MIAD so that wouldn't be the problem.

I never even knew they sold the the base plate separately, I thought you had to buy either the complete kit (comes with 2 grips and 3-4 backstraps) or a full grip (gen 1?) to get a base plate.

Is this plate of yours used or new?

PS I have the extra grip plus backstraps from my MIAD Kit if you are interested.

I bought a complete MIAD PTS MOE version of the grip. The grip that the panel goes in fits fine. I'm having trouble with only the motor plate. This motor plate won't fit on any other grip other than a Magpul MIAD. IT would definitely be nice if you can just buy a motor plate by itself.

I haven't been able to find the magpul PTS website. It keeps popping back into the real steel site. I thought I'd ask them....

You're confusing the terms. The MOE is a separate product from the MIAD. The base plates might be universal between the two, but you never know since the MOE is their generic/budget grip (meant to cheaply replace standard M4 furniture).

Anyway, you can buy MIAD base plates separate on Toyko-Model.com.hk (only place I've seen them). But I don't know if they'll work on your MOE grip. I can take pictures of my MIAD base plate if it'll help.

This is what I got fom AirsoftGI.
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_inf...oducts_id=2369

I'm looking to outfit my CA M15 to have similar furniture as my real AR-15.
The Basic MIAD is only $36. The PTS MIAD kit is $60.

The kit is nice. That's what I got.

You get 2 grip styles, 3 backstraps, 1 motor plates, and a polymer trigger guard.

Try this. The PTS site is a real pain in the arse.

I don't know what to say. I have heard from a local gundoc that the original MIAD grips caused hell with motor alignment fit etc.
