velocity and backyard shooting questions

Hello,

I'm new to the whole air soft stuff. I played paintball before and i used to shoot in my backyard, but with air soft, I don't know if that's "allowed" or simply safe to do so?

What should I buy to let the bbs hit? (like should I get a big wooden piece and place it against the fence? - my fence is wodden 6ft high)
I didn't have a problem with paintball because I knew it wouldn't pierce any wood.

For velocity, I have an aftermath Broxa, it was cronied at 370 @ .2g which is pretty hot for CQB but I was wondering what can I do to decrease velocity? if I put a .25g would that mean lower velocity but hurt more because of the heavier projectile? I'm a little confused so please enlighten me, thanks!

Depends where your backyard is, if there is even a slim chance that someone sees you it can mean a world of hurt (legal and physical).

First, you dont have to worry about it puncturing the wood, it is a fairly light projectile going only a few hundred feet per second. second, a heavier BB will not increase the energy in the BB (by any considerable amount) it just puts the same energy is put into accelerating a heavier object to a lower velocity.

The "FPS" rating in canada is all standardized to firing with .2 gram BB's

To answer your questions, it's just a bad idea in general to be shooting in a populated area, I wouldnt do it just to be safe.
And as for decreasing velocity, you can either put a weaker spring in the gun or leave the spring tensioned for a long period of time to wear it down (takes a LONG time).
FPS limits in Canada are governed by momentum, not actual velocity, so just using heavier ammo wouldn't work.

Definitely do not want to be shooting in your backyard in Vaughan. Very quiet neighborhoods mostly. People are likely to be scared of anything remotely gun like.

If you happen to have a clear reciever as a spare due to a metal-body upgrade, I think you can slap that on as well as your stock orange-tipped/covered flash hider and shoot in your backyard without any legal issues, although I don't have any verification on that.

As far as being hit by a 0.25 instead of a 0.20, I've been hit by both at relatively the same FPS, and didn't really notice a difference as to the impact of it, bruises were the same, heh. Certainly didn't hurt more, or at least not enough to feel the difference drastically.

Orange tip has nothing to do with legality, and clear receiver has nothing to do with legality once it's in Canada.
Not to mention the possible illegality due to city bylaws about discharging airguns within city limits (some cities have them, some don't, I would think most do).

Do some research before giving out incorrect information.

you can probably setup some sort of catching mechanism to shoot BB's at.

Take a box (cardboard or w/e), turn it sideways, put a towel or something inside to dampen the force of the strike, put a piece of paper in front of the towel (hang it from the front of the box), and you're good to go.

You can also print targets from your computer and use those if you want.

and also what do you mean keep the tension on the spring for a long time? how would I be able to accomplish that?
