Help on G36 barrel reinforcement.
With my luck there is probably a thread with this exact same title that has all the info I'm looking for but alas, neither google or the asc search could help me find what I need.
I recently bought a JG G36 full length and I'm finding the barrel to be.... wiggly. I tightened the screws as much as possible without risking stripping them but it still wiggles a bit, my main concern is for when I inevitably hit my barrel on something while turning. I'm looking for some sort of reinforcement I could buy, or preferably, a do it your self mod. I've noticed on a few of the higher end hand guards they have a plate that goes inside the forward hand guard and holds the barrel in place. The name of this piece would be very helpful as that would make it much easier to search for. Thanks in advance. |

Hmm.. not sure. I have a full size CA36, and the barrel is rock solid.. I've hit it off trees, dropped it, etc. etc and it has zero play whatsoever. Does the barrel assembly fit snug into the reciever, or is there play in there?

it all fits snug, it's just somewhat flexible as it is free floating in the hand guard AND the faux piston system is all plastic (though i'm 99% certain this is the norm for stock g36 of all sizes)

I'm just gonna bump this question back up there as I'm hoping on finding a solution soon.

1 -wrap a bit of teflon around it where it goes through the metal assembly. If the gap is bigger, try electrical tape. I did that with my FAMAS and it held the barrel fine without play. 2 -What I did -and I'm not sure if the JG G36 flash hider is like this- but on the CA the bore of the flash hider is actually slightly less than the outer diameter of the inner barrel. I got a 509mm inner barrel rather than the stock 494mm one, and bored out the flashhider to exactly match the outer diameter of the new barrel. It holds it perfectly snug.

No, no, no, The inner barrel is perfectly ok inside the outer barrel. But there is nothing holding the outer barrel still.

So what does the outer barrel anchor to on the gun?

it connects to the, mostly plastic, fake piston system/fuse/battery holder. There is a decent amount of metal there but there is one section where it's all plastic and i believe this is where the flexing is from. You have the CA G36 right? if you were to remove that piece in the hand guard that holds the barrel in place then it would be like mine is.
Any idea what the plate in at the bottom of this picture is called? I see it in every high end G36 longer hand guard set but it is missing in my JG Last edited by AngelusNex; October 10th, 2009 at 08:26.. |

Oh ok. On the CA that entire gastube/outerbarrel assembly is metal. The only plastic on it is the hop-up, and the whole assembly is held right into the reciever with screws at 3 points.
I believe that other little piece is a barrel stabaliser.

Well shit.... Mine is held to the receiver with 3 screws as well so I assume they are compatible... I'mma need to look for the CA version of that part now, thanks for the help Kalnaren.

I'm using an Army Code barrel assembly, but my barrel doesn't wobble even without that stabilizer. When you say the barrel wobbles, do you mean just the front of it, or the entire assembly?

when i say wobble I mean more of flexes, the whole things got some give to it somewhere. Hell, even when trying you can't tell it moves at all with the hand guard off, only when it's on and can be used as a reference point. Everything is tight, nothing is connected wrong.

I'm still not understanding how your barrel can wobble or flex. Do you mean it is just slipping on the threads where the two parts connect? On JG guns, the threads are often stripped easily. The barrel stabilizer will do nothing for it, you won't help your gun as reinforcement. What you need to do is cut a few strips of duct tape (real duct tape, not electrical tape) and wrap one (or 2 max) layers around the threads on the first barrel and then screw on the extension. It'll be solid as rock.

There is a reinforced replacement sold at Evike. It basically replaces the whole gaz piston assembly.
But instead of being a thin metal part with a plastic shell, it is a one piece metal part. Cheap metal, but it is the same as the stock, just bigger. Worked for me. You can also make a stab plate for your handguard if you want. Just mark the inside shape on a sheet, the mark the hole at the fron end over it. finally center the barrel inside the bottom part of that mark. Cut all that in 3mm ABS and fit it inside the handguard. Glue with plexi solvent or Gorilla glue. |
