Starter sniper rifle?

So i'm thinking about getting a sniper rifle for outdoor games for when Spring comes around again. I'm not sure what model to go for, but I'm planning on having it be a gas powered.

Is the gas powered a decent idea, or is gas a bad call for a sniper rifle?

What's a good model that's pretty versatile with addons I can do to it?

What kind of price would I be looking at for the model with a few (3-4) extra mags?

I would say go spring, that way you can use it in the winter too, but if you really want Gas, go for it.

I've seen and held a Tanaka Kar98,very nice rifle, very accurate. Not sure about the price, or other models, but thats my .02

Bad call. Get a spring powered rifle.

More consistent, less issues.

VSR10 probably has the most aftermarket upgrade parts (it has a TON).

But if your going to invest in a sniper, go quality, or dont get one at all. Maruzen, TM, CA all have good rifles.

Hope you've got deep pockets :P I started on my sniper a couple months ago and Im pretty sure my wife is considering a divorce because of it, either that or because I sleep with my Glock

I chose to go with the VSR10, lots of upgrades and parts are easy to find.

There is no such thing as a starter sniper rifle.
You either get a proper sniper rifle, or you are just waisting money on a soon to be 1.5m long plastic and metal useless contraption.

I'd say spring, but I'd also say get an AEG and learn the game before investing in a 1000$ + sniping platform.

Under 1000$ you won't get anything worth taking out of your car to play with.

I swear that the next person to refer to a rifle as a "sniper" is getting a boot in the face.

I have an AEG and a GBB. And i've played a few times already.

I havent done any outside stuff, but I've always been interested in rifles and sniping. So before Spring comes around where outdoors will probably happen more often than now, I thought I'd start planning this.

A few time like how long?

Using a 450fps rifle is a big responsability. If you are not used to estimating ranges and playing safe, your rifle will be a dangerous toy and will mostly be useless.

I always say to new players to play at least a full year with an AEG. That is at least 10 games outside. Just to learn the dynamics of airsoft.

Building a sniper rifle is not for everyone. It's costly and with todays crappy copy of a copy of a clone, you don't get high performances. So you better get a good base rifle to upgrade.

If I sound like I want to discourage you, I am. I've seen countless players trying as sniper and ending selling their rifle or simply leaving it in the car or at home. You won't see many snipers at game and there is a very good reason for that.

A sniper only look cool when he is in the parking lot readying his gear... On the field, you will not see them.

That's fair advice. But Spring's not till April or May anyway

Again this is still planning stages. I like the look of the VSR so I'll see if anyone I play with has one or something like it that I can hold to see if I like the feel.

I know that its a big responsibility, I'm not jumping into it and planning on dropping the cash next week. This is just the first step in questions so I know what to keep my eyes out for while researching.

Checkout ShaDo sniper clinic. Look at the sillabus of the clinic. You will get an idea of the sniper role and what is required of you to accomplish it.

If you just want a cool rifle to warrant you being a lone wolf.... you missed the point and you will be useless for your team.

(I sound like a recruiting officer that say that the SEALs are too tough for you... just to know how resolved you are.)

its tough not though :P lol

but anyways i considered getting one but its not like shooting a real sniper rifle or playing COD where u can aim and hit. A year with an aeg is really a great idea and if youve never played outdoor people will tell you to leave it in the car as you can seriously hurt someone if they get to close and you dont switch to a side arm

Yep, and please dont buy the TSD, WELL, UTG crap. If your going to become a sniper, get a real rifle platform, like i said in my other post. And just in case you didnt know, sniping is not "headshots from 300feet". Its more crawl for 3 hours, get no kills and report back to your team. If thats for you, then go for it!

Of course every area has their own playing fields, and things will be different, but make sure you think long and hard before sinking 1000$+ into something that you "may" like.

But you've got the idea, maybe even try to borrow a rifle, and try it out for a game or too!
