New players welcome!

I for one enjoy seeing new players come into the sport, naturally they're inquisitive and rightfully so, there's a lot to find out when you start out in airsoft like most sports.

Some of the so called "veteran" players have forgotten what it's like to start out in this sport and need to jump off their high chair so a minute or two and remember that there was someone to help them when they had questions, so be a good player and return the favor.

I welcome any and all questions from new players, I won't have all the answers but I'll surely do my best to put you in the right direction to dot those "i's" and cross those "t's".

Airsofters have to remember to pay it forward, that's the only way the sport will grow.

New Players Welcome

Hey Infernau I agree man, too many new players have been getting bashed lately (some I can understand because of attitude but none the less) when I first played with you guys.. you were welcoming, patient, more then willing to help with anything and never put me down in anyway.. I think all the "vets" should take the time and educate like you guys do... makes the sport a lot more enjoyable for the new guys... and as Infernau stated I am willing to answer any questions that you guys have to the best of my ability and again like Infernau said if we can't answer them we will point out who can!

For all the new guys out there welcome to ASC!

Congratz,
I was one of those who got bashed, and I think I deserved it at the time. I was annoying to the point where Macgvyer (brad from GP) was like
"not you again etc"
If we can force people to read FAQ before first post it would be awesome. Have like a short quiz to make sure they understand...

While sometimes I guess people here come off as harsh or whatever, and sometimes those people meant to be harsh. But that doesn't mean the person should get all butthurt over pixels on a screen. Its very situational as every thread has degrees of deservedness. People with a genuine interest and show that they have at least attempted to do their own research (starting a new thread asking whatever is on your mind is research but in the wrong order) get a welcome that is allot nicer than ones who show an obvious lack of effort on their part.

If after telling the person to try using the search features and reading the stickies they still show a lack of effort on their part then why should we show any effort to help them? We are not here to hold anyones hand who aren't willing to help themselves and only expect to be spoonfed by the populous here. I still am a firm believer that in order for someone post a thread they should have to complete some form of test quizzing them on some of the most frequently occurring threads we see pop up on a daily basis. This would ensure the person reads the FAQ and stickies before they flood the board with a question that has been asked COUNTLESS times.

The people who tend to be harsher (for the most part) are just annoyed at the flagrant lack of effort on the persons part for looking something up on their own. Sure their knee-jerk reactions may not be the best response but you gotta look at the source of their frustration. Once that can be taken care of (ie: with the suggestion of a test on the FAQ before one can make a new thread, etc...) then you wouldn't see as much "flaming" as you do.

Fuck I hate when that word gets thrown around more than Lindsay Lohans ginger twat. Some people just need to grow thicker skin instead of crying "that man on the internet said something I didnt like!!!". Thats just my (not so) humble opinion.

True enough, but I've also noticed that those new people who may not have their "age verified" under their nickname, seem to get pigeonholed as know nothing kids despite asking pretty good questions. I haven't been on long, but it took awhile to get verified. After doing my research, I was still leery of asking anything until I had that little box under my name. Assumptions are much too common. Weither it's eventually justified or not.
If a new person asks a stupid question, it should be ignored. No negative response is needed. Some troll the newbie section just looking for an uninformed question to pounce on.

There seems to be a misconception with the fact that if someone isn't age verified we automatically assume your sub 18 years. May I ask whats wrong with straying on the safe side until proven otherwise? This is the internet and the truth is never synonymous with it. People lie all the time, so as a safeguard against some punk kid pulling a fast one on us (its happened many-a-time) we bring up the issue of not being AV'ed, what it means, how to get it done, and until they get it done as have to assume the possibility of that person being a minor as very real. Theres nothing wrong with that, its just protecting our interests.

Sure those who vehemently indemnify a non-AV'ed person may come off as harsh but again this is all about perspective of pixels on a screen where emotion carried through is an educated guess. The person may sound like their pissed off, may sound like their jolly and cheerful but its hard to be 100% exact. Some people are just annoyed at the fact this person still has to ask questions about what being AV'ed is, how they can get a gun, etc... when its already explained EVERYWHERE on this site yet they still feel the need to make a new thread. Again its all about perspective so until the internet can accurately convey emotion then theres always gonna be problems with people who "freak out" and people who victimize themselves in a vain attempt to gain sympathy.

Let's not forget that there's no stupid question, a question is a query from someone seeking knowledge and should not be seen or taken as stupid just under informed. I agree that there are levels of common sense but to what I see everyday, common sense isn't so common anymore. I do my venting when I'm alone in my car I don't jump on asc and look for people to bash because that's just stupid, what possible benefit would I or the rest of the airsoft community get from such action. Younger and newer players need to be encourage to ask questions, too many people post half assed assumptions on topics they know very little about, if more people are informed then as a collective it's beneficial.

If you're new and are serious about getting your facts straight, keep records of it so you can tally up everything you've gathered, stay away from guys who bash you, they're not worth your time, if people are more than happy to help like myself and my team take them up on it, hell we even coach during games.

Don't give up on airsoft your are our future.

...While some flamers are just out for shits and giggles, it's hard to tell which is which.

Besides, there are members who've been around ASC as long or much longer than the harsher folks, yet are not nearly as harsh. Seems more like an issue of one's personal threshold for frustration. Why do easily frustrated people even look at Newbie Tank, much less chronically post in it, I'll never really understand.

Incidentally, this thread seems civil enough so far, remember to keep it that way.

I never got flamed once when I started on this board. You know why? I kept my mouth shut for the first 6 weeks and read instead of asking a bunch of stupid questions.

Not all questions are stupid, but the ones newbs ask are, for the most part, a combination of laziness and having the attention span of a squirrel.

I also resent being labeled as being on my high horse because I refuse to deal with idiots. I will pay it forward when someone deserving comes along and shows me they are worthy of a little guidance by putting some effort into clicking that big, bad search button. I know it weights allot, but using it shows me you are not a total retard, and therefor reassures me I will not be wasting my time.

I can count in the THOUSANDS the number of time on this board where advice is given, and then rejected because it's not the answer they wanted to hear.

Guiding and mentoring requires two people to participate. I don't see that level of engagement from most new folks. Sorry.

It's unfortunate, but there are a few new folks that get dragged in with the dumb asses by association. Life's rough.

If a person posts a comment or asks a question that is blatantly stupid, smuggling guns across the border for example, a few warning bells should go off.

First one is smuggling. Smuggling is illegal any way you slice it, there is no legal smuggling of goods. If it is a legal product then you wouldn't need to smuggle it.

Secondly the 18+ jazz. When you go to walmart the guns, display packages, manuals, everything says in big bold letters:

FOR 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER

There is no arguing with these two simple facts about airsoft guns. I get upset when I read posts that are not legible, contain zero punctuation and/or capitalization. People come here to ask questions there is no reason they should take the time to type out a proper question. I understand there are bilingual people on the board and they sometimes have trouble formatting sentences because French is so different from English when speaking and writing.

I get upset at people on the internet easily. I also like pissing people off on the internet. As such I try and stay away from posting in stupid newbie tank threads.

Firstly, lets remember that this is an internet forum, and while we have lots of new forum members, only a certain fraction actually become "players". I personally do not take anything said on this forum as a reflection on the person posting. Its in the regional or team forums where it matters, as thats where groups of people playing together connect, so it matters more.

Also, nothing makes me happier to see a new player on the field who shows enthusiasm for the sport, respect for the rules, and has a good time.

There are no stupid questions, but for those questions that some people may find stupid...there's always the search box.

The mods didn't put it there for style, noobs need to get familiar with it.

I am thinking that with all the information on this forum, just waiting to be researched and read, that the newbie tank would/(some would say) should be a virtual ghost town. Are there any more questions to be asked that haven't already been answered somewhere in here?
I think a lot of new people, who know nothing about the sport, just may, have trouble searching for something they don't know what to call it by. To them, they might not know it is an overly asked question.

But irregardless, Rock&Roll Outlaw, please continue to err on the side of caution and keep up the grammatically flawless writing, it is a pleasure to read wether I am on the sharp edge of it or not.

Pusangani...wow, that was...a nice thing/way to say that.

Aren't we all just one big happy family? :innocent:

I fully support the search box being the first place someone goes to find information on anything, reviews, parts (what works, what doesn't), av'd, ect.
The only dislike I have about being new/a noob is waiting for the av process. Fully support it, just dislike waiting to get a reply. :s
