You could, but the spring wouldn't seat properly. Also you would have to cut one loop at a time, each cut would require dis assembly of your gun for each loop you cut, therefore if you cut 4 loops that would require you to dis assemble your gun 4 times.

Please they cost $15 to replace man, just grab a spring from in country and you will have it next week.

PS I just read the engrish on my speed loader box, it is so horrid I find it impossible to trust the translation of anything from over there.

Just got a PDI 150% and 140%, because he wants to downgrade his g&g m14 to 400 fps... and wasnt sure about the PDI springs exactitude about the FPS (since the velocity depends on lots of other things too....)
So bought 2 springs instead of one, I'll report later on the chronoing with those....
