If it's plastic I normally take a vice grip and turn it (if this is a CCW thread) CCW to break the actual flash hider at the threads then I turn it CW to take it off.

The other method which I like cause it's kinda fun to do. Is take an exacto knife and heat it up with a lighter or blow torch and cut a groove length wise then repeat and cut another groove near it. Then I take pliers and break off that section, and then just unscrew it.

The really really easy way I also found is if you can take the barrel off or dont mind your gun sitting in an awkward position for an extended amount of time. Is to dunk the whole flash hider in acetone (nail polish remover) for about an hour. This actually dissolves the glue so you can turn it with ease.

I had a metal flashhider on my AUG. I just let it sit in some MEK for an hour or so and it striped off that cheap orange paint, but left the black powder coat underneath. There's also a special paint stripper at Canadian Tire but I forget what it was called. Does the same thing though.

I have the exact same aeg. The set screw on the plastic orange flash hider is a decoration. It's basically glued on.

I used a pair of spring loaded pliers to remove it. It took about five seconds.

Also, I used a soft wire brush to remove the remaining plastic and adhesive residue from the threading.
