but if you stand at 10 feet get hit, and 20 feet and get hit the pain is the same its just the impact time is different.
Kinetic energy is directly related to speed; the formula for it is 1/2*mass*velocity^2, so a lower velocity will result in less kinetic energy.

Also that pound of feathers is heavier than a pound of lead thing is missing the point; a 6mm bb can be heavier than an 8mm one, but it would have to be significantly denser for it to be.
