Only a person who has something to hide would refuse a lawful request.. Sure it's 100% within your rights to do so. and it's 100% within the officers discretion to detain you at the scene while the "issue is resolved" And you will drive away some time later.. with your little victory.. and labeled as a non-compliant subject by police

Thats just wrongful thinking. If they get prove I have something to hide they can go right ahead and get a warrant. Giving in time over time as they request searches is gonna turn this country into a police state. I wouldnt let them in my car as I wouldn't let them go in my house. I don't disagree do-as-they-say is gonna get you off on your way faster. But that's just gonna encourage them to pull more of these unlawful searches.

I would be willing to bet that I have been being pulled over by the various types police for longer than some of the folks in this thread have been alive.
I have never had them ask to look in the vehicle other than to see who else was inside or to look into anything that I was carrying like bags or other luggage. Back in the old days where you would get a "hickory shampoo" instead of a record/ticket or in these new enlightened days either.

Cops don't just stop people for something to do.. they are humans same as me and intrinsically lazy .. They do things for reasons I have no reason not to answer simple questions.. The cop is just doing his job, and getting all up in his face about "my rights" is not going to help anyone..least of all me. I agree that it's a fine line.. and I'd be the first to protest if I felt there was any hint of harassment, or if I felt the officer went too far. Police are naturally suspicious, allaying suspicion, not increasing it is an effective means for a positive interaction with LE

You guys should listen to Brian. Don't ever lie. A police officer can claim probable cause in almost every vehicle situation. Ie suspicious vehicle, driver demeanor. Also there is such a thing as a telewarrant. Basically they will detain you, and their dispatch will put them through to a judge. The judge then has the authority to permit them to a search. At which point your gear will be confiscated, and your vehicle torn apart. They do not have to put it back for you after. And you may not see your Airsoft guns for a long time.
Answer all questions truthfully. If he says "what's in the car?", or "is there something I should know about?", then tell him exactly what's in there. If he asks to see them, do not put your hands on the guns themselves. You will be taken down or tazed. This has actually happened over Airsoft guns. You may not get charged or permanently lose you stuff, but they can make your life a living hell for awhile. And why on earth would you lie or disrupt a peace officer? They are there to help you, not arrest you for properly transporting a legal to own item. If they just give you a speeding ticket, and don't ask questions you don't have to tell them. But if you have any baseball bats, Airsoft guns, knives, or other questionable items let them know when you are asked. Be polite, be helpful, be courteous even if the peace officer isn't. Don't give them a reason to dislike you, or you'll feel it.

while I understand those with concerns about their "rights" .. however if you are pulled over by a cop, they have some form of a rhyme or reason to have gone out of their way to stop your vehicle... and probable cause comes into play
the question "do you have weapons/firearms/etc in your vehicle" has fuck all to do with YOUR rights and more to do with THEIR rights to safety. if you answer yes, the officer is making sure HIS rights to safety are in check ... no different then someone else checking a ladder or car lift for proper function before using it.. and I seem to remember something in the Firearms licensing (forgive me it's been years since I was licensed it was still an FAC then lol ) that if an officer of law enforcement asks to view your license, paperwork, firearm. etc you are legally obligated to ablidge them.. it's the same as a vehicle license .. it's a PRIVILAGE not a RIGHT in Canada...

i understand your views.i wouldnt be a smart ass look for trouble. when i do get pull over or stop and road blocks. i usually stay silence and only answer yes or no questions. and if i do get ask if i have weapons the answer is always a no. even if i have guns presents . because i dont intent to use them as weapons. telling the cops that i have weapons is just looking for trouble. my original respond was to point out that you dont have to give information to the police.

Well, it just seems easy for you, but where I live (the anti-gun province also known as Quebec), just saying to almost any cop that you have a "weapon", even if it's a blank gun or an airsoft, they would just kick you out of the car and arrest you. I don't know why I would tell them I have a weapon, as I'd be putting myself in a world of sh*t! If they ask questions, I just tell them no, or if I see they're suspicious, I avoid direct questions. Yes/No answers.

First of all you don't tell them you have guns. Second of all, you don't need an ATT for long guns, much less airsoft.

Here's the best answer to your question, Seek legal "professional" answers to your questions (pay legal council) whom has the knowledge in the area you are inquiring about. As well remember that the municipal bylaws, provincial/federal laws & ACTS are different depending upon municipal, provincial or federal jurisdiction you reside in or travel through. There's a old saying, "ignorance of the law is no excuse" and advise from friends will always be bad advise.

This I'd an interesting thread. Interesting enough to make me throw in my 2 cents for once. Being 6'2" 280lbs full of tattoos from neck to palms to toes I have learned very quickly that your best offense is a great defence. Be respectful eg: "yes officer" or "no officer". Only answer questions when asked and don't ask a cop a question unless you know, not "feel" , your rights are being trampled on. Have your objective of how you want to spend your day in mind. Want to get to your game on time? Want to avoid a headache? Just be cool man, don't be a dick and you will kickin it with your buddies out in the bush soon enough.
