Full disclosure I have an old school chromed metal AI propane adapter, and I've never had a problem with it. That being said, the number of players I have seen DESTROY fill valves with metal adapters is mind boggling... so while I personally seem to be able to use a metal adapter, I don't recommend them.

The magazine valve is raw brass and is soft, and if the adapter has a nozzle that chrome plated brass, it can mark up a magazine brass valve over time

It would be better if the adapter nozzle is made from either plastic or raw brass. Although Delrin or nylon will last longer and better over plastic still.
