Did you strip the threads on the nuts or did you strip the threads inside the hand guard?

I am assuming the nuts are made of actual steel material. If it has a bad bur, it can tear up the threads inside the hand guard which is aluminum.

Well thank you all for your suggestions but i ended up drilling 2 screws into the rail but the screws ended up breaking into the holes i made. I guess its a 120 dollar mistake.
