I get that they should drop free for the purpose of a combat mag change and the speed required for that function. They shouldn't just drop out of the weapon while you are moving into a firefight though.

Apparently I'm not the only one that has had this issue. From time to time my mags would literally fall to the ground as I was raising the weapon to fire it.

The fact that they are painted with camouflage made it tough to find them when this occurred and forced me to paint a line of bright safety yellow across the top 1/2" of all of my magazines.

It didn't mater what type of mag either. Metal, plastic, high cap or mid, all had the same issue. The electrical tape now means I have to pull on the magazine to extract with a minimal amount of force while depressing the mag release but that is not an issue in airsoft imo. If my life depends on the additional speed of a mag dropping free then I should be drawing my secondary anyway.

This has happened to me who knows how many times before I shimmed my magwel.

The gun was almost ungamable before the mod.

Yeah I nearly lost about a half dozen mags before I painted the yellow on them and I don't know how many times I would go to fire at someone and the mag was gone and 1 round goes out then nada.

What did you use to do the job?

Mitch, my VFC has the same issue with some mags. I put in a piece of velcro (The fluffy side) and it works perfect.

I tried that first and I can't even get the mag in with the velcro in place. My magwell is just tight enough to not work with that fix but loose enough to drop my shit all over the field.

I might try Hectic's remedy of a thin plastic piece from some packaging. It will wear better than the electrical tape that's in there right now.

I pretty much just shimmed the magwell with grip tape used for real guns. Those things won't peel off unless you peel them yourself. They are pretty durable and will probably last as long as your gun.

Swapped the spring on the mag release but not sure if that actually would make any difference. My VFC HK416 also has a very weak spring but that gun never dropped any mags.

Looking at my pics its very hard to tell that I've cut up several pieces to form that solid square inside the magwel. I even use them to shim my selector so it doesn't move when I shoot on semi. I'm a lefty and my fingers tend to accidentally hit the selector while shooting. The tape provides enough resistance that the selector stays in place.

Edit: You can also sand down the grip tape it is too thick... very affordable option if you consider it

Some of the guys at my field shim the mag instead of the magwel. They do this for mags with feeding issues but this may also help with dropped mags as well

I wonder if skateboard tape would do the same thing but be more easily sourced.

The grip tape is rubber... there are grip tapes that are like sandpaper but you don't want that. Its going to scratch up all your mags.

The rubber grip tape is very versatile in my opinion. I've used it for many other projects as well. You get a nice amount of tape in a pack... it doesn't seem like much but I've had enough left over to tape in the front of my magwel for extra grip when I hold my gun there... I don't know how much I need the tape there but its nice to have lol.

I even placed pieces of grip tape on the side of the gun to rest my trigger finger on so my finger just sticks on the tape when I'm not shooting

That makes sense. I had no idea what the Glock tape was made of and was just going by the look of it.
