One thing I've kept hearing about play in south east asia is that the FPS limits at games are extradonairly high in comparison to ours (Body armour here is an optional peice of gear for looks...there you just need it)

FPS limits are comprable to Canada. I believe for the games I play it's 400 fps for fully auto guns, and 425 for semi-auto.

Yeah the boxmag isn't to my taste either. Makes it look like a "man vs alien" movie tool. A couple of guys on my team have it because of the regular p90 hi-cap mag issue though (sticking) and it is quite effective as hi-caps go.

As to the training aspect, I think the Japanese are probably closer to realism than one might think...

You'll note the winner of this 380,000$ prize speed shooting tournament in both Limited and open classes is Tatsuya Sakai of Japan...

Sakai told me that he has won the "Steel Challenge of Japan" (the Airsoft version) six times in a row, using (I beleive) one of the Airsoft S-V raceguns, which is as close to an excact duplicate of a "real gun" that I've ever handled.

Mike Dalton said they use 1/4-scale plates for their competitions at appropriately scaled down distances.

Sakai comes over three weeks before the Steel Challenge to tune up with a live gun. He told me it takes him a day to make the transition from Airsoft to cartridge gun, because the recoil on the Steel Challenge guns isn't really much of an issue. He says now that he's done it for several years (I believe he's finished 2nd in Open a couple of times), the transition is no big deal.

I don't have any information about the effectiveness of airsoft in training for outdoor engagements but it's definitely on for cqc.

I note a lot of guys in outdoor games using bushes as hard cover and taking chances you just wouldn't take if you were gonna get a .223 or AK round for your trouble. I'm often able to just step out of the way of streams of bb's shot at extreme ranges, which is a bit silly. I suspect outdoor games teach good fieldcraft since you have to get MUCH closer to be within airsoft aeg ranges though.

I love woodland airsoft but I suspect it reaches it's pinnacle in training effectiveness in a cqc environment.

I would love to see Sakai with a WA SV at one of those billion bb
games.

p.s. One of the prizes Sakai won was a NICE handgun. As he couldn't own a firearm in Japan, he gave it away to one of the other competitors. How cool is that? Apparently any kind of airsoft makes you cool.

Well mostly I say that because if our gear was worth more then our gun collection I'd need a third closet just for gear alone (we had to put in a walk in closet for our regular clothes)

I have a number of friends who have experience with Airsoft games around the Asia Pacific region mainly Hong Kong. I heard story of a whole team of players travel by subway to go to a game with their army uniform, and lots of Airsoft gun bags lying around. Players’ going to a game not only to play a game but is an opportunity to show off their ‘piece’ proudly to their pears. Also many players taking the game a little too seriously and is not unusual to see players ended up in fist fights which spoil the fun of a game. They also have a higher FPS limited which contributed to higher incidents of player injuries…to sum it all up I personally would prefer the Canadian style of airsoft games. Airsoft players in Asia have a definite advantage of easy access on getting everything they need to enhance the level of their games…this is something we envy a great deal in Canada.

My uncle airsofts in Hong Kong. But that was back in the classic airsoft days where FPS is the goal....he has the pockmarks to prove it...LOL

The fps is getting lower now. Hardly find a game for High fps now. :sad:
Not many ppls showing off their gears unless it is a really big games.

For me i want to try airsoft in canada, but too bad all my gears and guns are in Hong Kong and hard to import to canada. the main problem for me is hard to find a good gunsmith here, may be airsoft was not popular in here b4.

The culture is different too, here ppls like using low cap mag ( more ppls start using lowcap mag in H.K, but still not that popular)

It all depends in the region you're in... you'd be suprise how milsim some of us are... If only you had played at the LZ(Ottawa) before...
