WAFFLE MAGS!!!

Nice job Warren! That is the nicest (high tech) AK I've seen to date. Can I touch it next time I see you at a game?

wrong man the AK-74 uses the 5.45X39 russian.

the main differences in the 47 and the 74 are caliber and the flash hider.

AKM-47 with GP-25

Welcome to anyone's input.
Okay here goes...

AK-74 has a stamped receiver, instead of the milled one of the 47. Also, the muzzle brake is different (you have a 74 one), the furniture is different (not really an issue with the look you have there), the front trunnion is different, the front sight is slimmer (you have the proper one), and the gas vent tube is of a steeper angle (yours is proper). That's what I can come up with off of the top of my head.

Also, AK-74 fires the 5.45x39mm round, and the 47 fires the 7.62x39mm round. Your mags are 7.62mm mags. The 5.45mm mags aren't curved as much.

EDIT: Damned beavers, stealing my rants...

Also: The front sling mount on the 47 is on the barrel, and on the 74 it's just forward of the foregrip. The rear one on the 47 is on the receiver, and on the 74 it's on the stock.

The 74 uses a stamped receiver instead of a milled one. The most noticable part of it is the small dimple above the magazine well instead of a big rectangle like on the most common 47s.

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jfreem..._receivers.jpg

The top is stamped, the bottom is milled. Look above where the magazine inserts.

The 74 has an excellent muzzlebreak/flashider, which you already have.

Also has a ribbed cover instead of a smooth one, which you also already have.

You need a different curvature on your magazines, 5.45mm ones:

http://www.usarmory.com/ftp/akplum.jpg

Note how less curved that magazine is compared to your 7.62mm style ones.

Since you have tactical furniture, no need to compare that, neither the 47 or 74 have it, but it looks great for a tactical AK, 47 or 74.

The front end gas block also has some small differences, but Im not going to go into that.

I think that sums up the main points.

EDIT: Damn Vivisector beat me to it, more or less.
Attack beaver - you forgot the most important part - the different receiver.
Plus - your pics dont work
Plus - I beat you towards the 5.45 instead of the 5.56
Plus - Im an ass

Cheers!
Alex

Some 74s do have a ribbed cover, some don't.

This could be a LONG thread if we keep up this line of discussion :P

Care to share where you got that info from? I do believe that ribbed covers were in place since the AKM type 2, if not earlier.

Cheers,
Alex

Sure thing.

Smooth covers are being used on newer AK-74Ms.

cool, tons of info, thanks a lot guys.

I guess I'm going to name it AK-47 Tactical since I don't think I'm going to get a 74 receiver anytime soon and it's a pain in the A$$ to mount the scope mount on the receiver.
