every gearbox may break, remember to file it at the front and i guarntee that you will be fine with at G&P for more than 300k rounds at M120. is that not durabiliy enough? alså THE CA box may be mis cast which is an endless possiblity for problems. |

Its nice, but i'd rather see a manufacturer release something other than a 249. Like a ne M60, or better yet, a PKM

That must be a riot at parties (sorry, I couldn't stop laughing after I read that.)
After handling Apoc and Quantis' CA249's in Ottawa there is no other LMG I'd even go close to if I where going that route. You could use the mechbox to smash a v2 and a v3 to pieces, put it back in the gun, and its still 100% Version 2 mechbox in a LMG, I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole. One word description for the CA249 mechbox is "brick" STAR copied the CA design as far as I know but used polycarb instead of metal. There are aftermarket metal ones available though polycarb is apperantly stronger than the potmetal used in TM mechboxes, too lazy to check my textbook for the exact values. I had a STAR one and its CA or bust for me now, the damn thing was as heavy as a FMU GBB, it felt like a toy. |

I'm guessing that the V.2 over the V.3 option being due to the handle and it being unable to hold the motor cage. That's just a visual opinion from me on why they went V.2 over V.3.
Another possibility is the fact that MOST of their guns use the V.2 box anyway. So stick to what they know and deal with. All their parts are V.2 oriented as well so why make production lines change up? Personally, I'd put up with a V.2 from G&P. I have one in my Bushmaster and the things awesome. And the best part is that replacement parts are more readily avail for the V.2 mechbox. So break downs are easily fixed in my opinion. Although I'm told the M249's out there strip gears CONSTANTLY so I wonder how this 249 is on gears.

Does anyone know if the G&P M249 will take standard magazines?

From the review on the G&P M249 PARA, you can fit a M16 mag in, but the hop-up unit is about and inch back, thus, will not feed.

G&P should have made the Mk46 Mod0 and they would have been ahead of the game. Maybe people will complain less about the version2 gearbox when they have something that no other manufacturer makes.
