I wouldn't be pushing for the CFC to govern the use and commerce of airsoft guns. They'd make a hell of a mess out of it - just look at the shit we go through with restricted firearms and ATTs. You'd want to do all that for a toy? I'd simply quit airsoft, not worth the hassle.

I was really happy about the article. We had two other reporters out for this game. The New Tribune is going to run a two article story on us after the Long Winter game and Meredith Davenport is trying to shop a documentary on airsoft. More then likely she will also publish an article in a national level magazine like Newsweek, National Geographic or New York Times magazine.

Bottom line is that Airsoft guns are not guns - it is not fair to treat them as weapons. This is not a Liberal v. Conservative thing. I know plenty of Liberals who fully support airsoft but not firearms and vice versa with Cons.

The focus is to present airsoft without spin, which is what I think this article did.

But they are still dangerous. You have to present them in a way that every Joe parent won't get little 13-yo Jonny an AEG. Difficult situation to try and present a balance in.

The problem isn't for people with common sense, but some parents still think they're kids should have 400fps airsoft guns. All I'm saying is they shouldn't be presented as toys like the clearsoft shit in sprawl-mart and crappy tire.

Again, in YOUR country, the laws and politics are different. Again, Canada does not see guns as America does. Period.
So what happens in your country has no impact.

I'd only go for this if it was to get the same idea as "non-restricted" so that all one needs is the card to get the gun and possibly ammo. The simplicity is that it'd keep it out of under 18 people's hands, but like ya said, lots of red-tapes.

I am sure ALL ideas have their merits as well as their cons, but someday I am sure that Airsoft will be more well known throughout Canada than what it is now. One of the questions that should be raised is how do we as a community deal with it when it does happen, especially if the sport is spun in a bad light??
My club here in Victoria is in a maybe somewhat unique situation where as fully paid members of the VFGPA, we are also members of the BC Wildlife Federation. This gives our club access to a "lobby" group which has advised governments, both past and present, on all manner of outdoor sporting interests, including shooting, hunting, fishing etc etc. The VFGPA are fully aware of what airsoft is, and if and when the time comes that something needs to be done regarding airsoft, they will be there to support our group.

That being said however, what do WE as a community do when the time to come out of the wookwork arrives, and we are left in the situation of defending what we do?

Heres an idea. I will donate $100 to an appropriately setup and run national fund to "spin" airsoft in the right light. I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is and get some kind of positive atmosphere placed on airsoft.
Anyone care to donate as well??...or do we as a group sit back, wait for the inevitable to happen and then wonder why we have lost our sport??

I think we should do something like the gamers did with childsplay. Have airsofters try and raise money for research of a disease or something to that effect.

Somehow I really don't think that would work. Remember, dudes with replica guns are automatically seen as BAD by the majority of the public... I may be off the mark, but I think the media would spin it to portray it something akin to biker gangs raising money for a cause.
