No reason or requirement to swap out barrels on the airsoft version. Even if it were possible, you're more likely to break it by doing so repeated and unnecessarily; thats the nature of the tools.

yes, CA M249s can take any M16 mag and work, guys at our indoor arena have to use AEG magazines now and they have no problems. the G&P M249s cannot take M16 mags.

The box mag uses a little adapter that has a standard AR mag on the end of it. It fits into the mag well and is covered by the ammo belt. You can ditch it for a standard mag easily enough.

If I'm reading this question correctly - You should be able to use any make/model of m4/m16 magazine, (e.g. TM, CA, MAG, etc...) and same goes for the box-mag I imagine:/ but If I were you I would stick with the CA box-mags, they would most likely work the best with a CA249.

No problems? Cactus, are you serious? using mags in the 249 at XT creates nothing BUT problems, thats why I dont use the 249 there anymore unless you have some crazy LMG CQB game in mind. :P
The problem is removing the magazines and loading a new one. If you somehow manage to remove the mag without tearing the guts out of it, then youve probably had a few BBs fall out of the mag and into the magwell, into those little nooks and crannys that you cant get at with your finger. Sure, you could flip the gun upside down, but theyre so far in that you need a knife or something to poke em out. All this before you can load the next magazine... yep, real combat effective. I want my F'ing box mag back! |

The M16 mags dont work well int he M249(both in airsoft and real steel). Not only will you blow through 30 rounds really fast... not all mags work. My star mags dont work in my M249. Just stick with one Box... it will last you plenty. And dont expect to be doing Box changes under fire... they are really hard to get off. I need to use a knife to get mine off.

Depending how much you like to tinker, it's easy to make the box mags come off properly. I've set my 249 up so I can swap out the box mag for another one in just a few seconds. For the battery connections I used a quick tab and mounted it where the box holds to the gun. It's a neat little setup. No need to fumble with electrical connections. Fresh box and battery in the middle of a fight.

well i was just assuming you were taking the mags out correctly lol
its the first time you've told me of that problem anyway. but yeah any M16 mags work as they're pretty well all the same, but the G&P box mags feed completely differently from the CA and star box mags as theres no magazine adaptor on the G&P model. I've heard its possible to put a CA hopup unit in there and then use the mag feed but I dont think anyone has tried? |

Hey can you post up a picture of this rig you got going?
Quote:
and i found that C7 Mags when using Ball Rounds NOT Blank rounds work really well in the C9 but i do agree, you will burn through your 30rds in no time and there is a possibility for a 7 round jam, which i have seen. you open the feed cover and lift the feed tray and find a cluster F!@# of rounds in the body... makes for a funny picture ahahaha Thanks SWAT |

The M-16 mag is a nice feature but a last resort in my mind. If some unexpected situation comes up where you use all your ammo you have the option to grab a few mags off a teammate and at least be able to return fire if needed.
I would recommend getting a 3rd party box mag too. I've found the winding button placement on the CA box to be inconvenient and the box mag doesn't always like to feed, even when fully wound, unless your hold down the button when firing or put it on constant wind. I'm probably gonna end up moding my CA box to use a pressure pad with a length of wire like most other boxes do. |

Thats what I did. I removed the old button, extended the wires so they can reach the pistol grip and placed a new and smaller button. So I can press it with my thumb as im pulling the trigger.
