C1 SMG, the Patchett Stirling with some Candian tweaks. Winter trigger I think and maybe a couple other tweaks. Canadian Arsenals 1959.

I'd love a GBB version.

Would anyone happen to know the mag dimensions on the Stirling?

I'm going to go on a limb and use my memory, I've been clouted a few times since then but I'd put them a bit larger than MP5 mags.

Wow, I have a garbage bag full of 82 pattern web stuff in my closet. Didn't think anyone still had interest in this.

I just remember it getting really uncomfortable after a while, with all the weight hanging on our shoulders.

Wasn't the Sterling labelled the C3?

There's a couple guys over in the UK that have built Sterling AEG's up.

The Sterling was actually the C-4. The C-3 was the sniper rifle. Someone at NDHQ/LETE had this great idea that all the weapons should be numbered in order. That's how we ended up with the C1 (Main Battle Rifle), C2 (Support Weapon), C3 (Sniper Rifle), C4 (Sub-machine Gun), C5 (GPMG), C6 (GPMG). Gotta love thier obsession with things being in order.

I don't want to start the contest but every one I was issued was stamped C1. Why? Because it was the Canadian Mark 1 Sub Machine Gun.

Don't believe me? Search C3 SMG and see what you find, then search C1 SMG.

In our group it was commonly called the "Smig".

Fair enough, the C1 Sterling (L2A1);

It was a real achievement by the way to score one for an ex. Smaller than the rifle and 9mm blank ammo was often short supply for Infantry so no cleaning afterward. Section 2iC was a great place to find one. You just had to stay invisible till it was too late to get sent back to the weapons room.

Then at least half the time you'd get to do something really funny like get issued a GPMG and a C1 at the same time. Or a rifle and a SMG and so on. Some folk didn't like seeing soldiers with anything but a rifle, I'd guess it just looked too messy.

Upgrading my kit, have Pattern 82 to get rid of

Hi Fellas,

First post. I'm not an Airsoft guy, and I'm not Canadian. I'm an American sport shooter with an FN para. I've been using Canadian C1 pouches for LBE for a few years. I'm finally upgrading my kit to a new MOLLE vest/carrier with new pouches all in ACU.

Subsequently, I have some Pattern 82 gear that I no longer need. I've got 9 C1 pouches in excellent used condition and two belts. One of the belts is in VG condition but missing about half of the grommets (but works fine without them). The other belt is in good condition missing only 5 grommets but with some stringing along one edge. I bought this stuff at a surplus store in Quebec in '96, and since then it has only been in the field a couple of times. I used it with USGI H-type suspenders and it worked great.

If you need some pouches to complete your kit, let me know. I'd like to get $50 USD for the lot, and I'll throw in the USGI suspenders and two USGI canteens with covers (fair condition). I can email photos on request.

I would also be willing to trade for other Canadian milsurp. Have you got anything interesting? Maybe a rucksack or newer LBE?

I am not a dealer, just a private individual. Email me at bbrah@artisnwriting.com.

Regards,

-BRAH

Hasn't been mentioned yet so here's a little bit of FYI. With the webbing set before the 82 pattern you had the belt, yoke, Canteen pouch and Mess tin carrer. There was no mag pouches for the webbing, mags where carried inside the bottom pockets on the combat shirts. In each pouch there are 2 nylon pouches for the FN 20 round mag. If you had a C2 LMG you got the bra to wear that carried 4 mags. Can't remember if there was anything for the SMG

Yeah Jakster I was the last Reservist Infantry platoon to use the old Web gear, Once when we finished our GMT they gave us the L 85 webbing....better then using out pockets which was a pain in the ass....before the old L 85 I remember a web belt with suspenders, mess tin carrier, canteen carrier and a grenade carrier with a bayonet frog

Luxury!

We used to dream of having pockets to put our magazines in!

Our platoon Sargent used to cut pockets into our skin... to stuff the mags into.. and we had to fight bare chested.. so we could get at the mags.

And don't talk to me about the mags for the SMG.. if I told you where we had to carry those mags.. well your hair would curl..

of course.. men were harder then.. more accustomed to discomfort and hardship

But... if you tell kid's today that.. they won't believe you!
