You guys suck. I always wanted to do this myself, and em glad someone else is curious about it. Too bad most regular paintball guns are open bolt, kinda sucks for a sniper rifle. It would be great for what I wanted it for though, a Thompson SMG :P

But yes, there is quite a bit of work involved. What sniper rifle did you want to build?

the bolt does slide back and forth, but is large so that enough air escapes to push the paintball. here is a pic i took of a bolt.

thanks for the pics, i saw a similar one, i was thinking that i could thread the inside of the bolt and use a tapper to put a thread on a custom made nozzle (out of plastic or metal) and that would be the only thing i would have to modify, though thanks to that article madmax sent i realize that the power would be much to high to be usable.

A longass time ago I machined my own gas bolt design to make a custom APS2 that fired from regulated CO2. I got the velocity very consistent as it fired a precisely measured quantity of CO2 that was consistently regulated. Output was adjustable via the regulator setting and everything was internal to the hollow stock (no remote coil).

Unfortunately I never productized this upgrade kit as it was far too easy to make the gun unsafe. At a measly 270psi, the gun could blast a 0.43g pellet to 550fps and the pneumatics had rated service pressures good to 400psi. Too dangerous to productize so this rifle got shelved indefinitely. Too bad, at that ridiculous speed, pellets were consistently chronying to +/-2fps.

oh and everything would be bolted into the body so it should line up and be air tight if the orings in a paintball gun are airtight.

did you try using a different gas like Propane?

i have working on a gas system for almost 3years now. i would have finished along time ago if i had the money to do it.

thanks iv seen candymans build, its beautiful. i just didn't want to use a pistol as the power source because i don't think it would be very accurate, (as it is supposed to be a sniper rifle)

i was thinking of trying to design my own bolt, the only problem is i'm not entirely sure how to make it semiautomatic and accurate. and id probably need my own mill. dam i wish i could afford a sherline mill. oh and does anyone know if the escort system is going to be semi auto or just full?

the tiberius 8 pistol or T9 rifle is one of the most accurate guns out there and is also arguablly the best pistol that store the Co2 in the pistol grip. give that a look.

My plan was to make a winter fieldable rifle so propane was unfortunately out. Regulated propane did well during the summer as the reg assured input pressure stability. It also simplified the gas containment significantly because of the low pressure. I had to weld custom refillable pressure vessels for CO2 to work well. I didn't like disposable 12g powerlet so I made 1.5oz refillable cylinders which were pretty neat. They hold nearly triple the propellant of a 12g. Man I forgot about the pressure cylinders. I didn't want to have to DOT cert them for mass production. I could do hydro testing pretty easily, but proper DOT cert would have been a messy requirement.

cool, the size of the tiverious pistol is perfect, im just not sure how i could modify it. ill need to look for a blueprint of some sort, the t9 looks realy good, the only problem is the rear reciever, (behind the barrel) on the wa2000 is only 21cm long, so thats about what 8 to 8.4 inches?. which means that if the hopup takes about one inch ill have to fit everythign in to a seven inch space, unless i scrap the idea of having a full length barrel and then maybe a larger gun could be used. i just wish the escort mechbox was released so that i could know if it would work or not.
another thing iv been wondering is can a square piece of steel be used as a gas tank? (im thinking no because of uneven pressure but you never know)

just use a regular CO2 tank. they have burst disks in them and everything so that they are safe to use/store C02 in them.

i want to use a regular tank, my only issue is i might have to ither remove part of the frame of the rifle (not a good idea i dont think) or use tiny 12g capsuls, which while nice and cheap can get expensive when allot of them are used. the only tanks iv found that would fit were made for those rap4 paintball markers and the mark up on them is rediculous, (60-80 dollars for a 200gram cylinder)
