easy, and far more simple than modding anything.

unloaded pistol + blood pack + good acting + safety = receive bacon

blood packs are pretty easy to make (fake blood in a thin plastic bag taped to the body, slap it and it should break). However, act paranoid and if possible act (if on stage) or photograph (on film) having the gun aiming as far away from your actors as possible. Some form of eye protection could be worked into the script. The reaction should be acted, simple.

Safety is above all: supply no ammo/bbs, keep the safety on, dont aim it near anyone. the rest is movie magic.
