The truth right here. You'll be able to easily see what's wrong with it. Watch the videos on mechbox.com if you haven't already. They're really not the complicated. But they are precision devices, and if things are off (as they often are in cheap guns), then you can encounter problems.

And if you do take it apart, and can't seem to see what is wrong with it, just snap some pictures of it, and of the parts in the mechbox, then post them up here.

i want to add something... try playing with the motor heigh. if the motor is either too in or out it will make a grinding noise, also if you are opening the mechbox be sure to reshim it properly before closing it, krackens tends to have bad shimming (witch cause early gear failure), when i received mine i immediately opened the mechbox, changed nylon bushings for metal one and shimmed it properly! i runned my kracken's mechbox on a 11.1v lipo without a problem!

Just an update: I have not yet opened the gear box, because I am waiting for a response from buyairsoft. I've sent 2 e-mails and I'm probably not going to get a response.
So i'm either going to wait another couple of days and fix the gun myself. OR i'm going to keep sending e-mails 'til they respond to one. |

Well, your choice to wait of course, though honestly if the piston is the issue it will be cheaper to fix than the shipping to RMA it.
If you do get a new one (or decide to fix this one) you'll want to do some preventative maintenance to prevent it from happening again.

Well, i got a reply this afternoon from them and we've been sending e-mails back and forth so far about what's going on with the gun, but I'm pretty sure that they won't refund it.
But if its not the piston which is like what? $20 - $35 to fix? Or the gears which would be... i have no idea. I don't think im lucky enough for it to be just a piston. |

take it apart. If the cost of fixing it gets above $70, go to ebanned and get a JG V3, which has a motor as well. But that has terrible shimming, and cheapo nylong bushings, of which those 2 issues you may want to fix

Opening the Mechbox
So i've unscrewed all the screws but I seem to have hit a snag. There's one piece at the top of the mechbox that covers the seam and seems to be holding the two halves of the mechbox together, it looks like its supposed to simply "slide" off. I've taken a pair of vice-grips and tried to slide it off, but it won't budge. My mistake???

use more force you have to get this rail out in order to split the mechbox. try maybe sticking a flathead screwdriver at the back of the rail to unstuck it

Yep, there is a notch on that rail which you might need to lift up slightly to "unlock it", after that it should slide off with a bit of controlled force.

hmm.
There's no visible reason (in my opinion) why the gun shouldn't be firing. The piston doesn't have any cracks in it, or anything that looks abnormal. The gears all have their teeth and everything seemed to be turning as it should. The only thing that comes to mind is... If you see the teeth circled by the green circle. When i opened the mechbox those gear teeth thats supposed to pull back on the piston were more ascew then when i replaced it; or maybe it the gear popped out a bit when i opened the mechbox itself. Ideas? |
