Don't bother thinking about getting a bolt action for your first airsoft gun. Get an AEG as you will find that gaming with a bolt action will be boring if don't already have some games under your belt. Besides, almost ALL stock bolt actions have sub-par performance without close to $1000 worth of upgrades (cuz Amos, stage left...) to get them to perform better than AEG. That and if you want a hot gun, most game hosts wont allow someone new to the sport to run a hot bolt action.

Like I said, get an AEG; get some games under your belt, get a reputation for yourself that you are a safe and responsible airsofter and then people might feel better about you running a bolt action.

Based on what you're saying, eg-sinz, I think your best bet is to actually come out to a game at Flagraiders in Kitchener. You can pretty easily find yourself a rental for the day. It will also given you an opportunity to get AV'd, ask questions in person, AND take a look at the many guns available.

You really want to see airsoft in person before deciding not to play or what not to get.

You might even be able to carpool with some of the London players.

I may be a hardass about this, but for God's sake man can you please take some time to format your posts properly? Reading your writing is giving me a headache. There is this wonderful invention called "the period", you put it between sentences in a paragraph. Capitalizing your "i"s and spell checking would go a long way as well.

You've stated that you are above 18, but you present yourself as a twelve year old.

So you don't have time to spell correctly because you're goofing off when you are supposed to be working....

Regardless the other fellows who have posted here in response to your questions are giving you good advice. Go to a game in your area, chat up the players (everyone loves to show off their toys) and get a feel for things before you plunk down any cash.

In the time it took you to type that, you could have properly formatted your post. Twice.

Not ragging on you man, just say'in.

The thing you have to remember is that this is a forum full of adults. Not snotty little kids who don't give a shit about spelling, grammar, etc. Furthermore, properly formatting a post doesn't only look good on you, it's some common curtesy to the people trying to read it and help you. Personally, half the time I ignore posts by people if they're hard to read.

If one can't take the time to properly format a post, why should we take time trying to read it? This isn't some IRC chatroom. This is a public forum with expected etiquette.

All that aside, what everyone else has said pertaining to airsoft is good advice. From your questions you'd be best advised to try and head out to a game and check the equipment out in person. You'll learn more there than you ever will asking questions on a forum.

Well first off, AEG stands for Auto Electric Gun. Read up on some FAQ when you get home, read the stickies pertaining to new people and you will find your integration alot easier.

Alot of people say thats how they will want to play, but find that to be boring very quickly. But you can still do that with an AEG. A long DMR (Designated Marksmen Rifle) will fit the bill very nicely. You will have a GOOD long time trying to find a Barrett. Those are pretty damn rare, and VERY expensive ($2000 plus...) Try getting something like an M14 or a Dragunov AEG. The reason you wont find alot of niceties from people when a new guy comes on the field wielding a hot bolt action rifle. Pay attention to the games and the FPS limits posted. Keep in mind those are LIMITS, not GOALS.

But like has already been mentioned head to a game and try it all out firsthand before dumping money into something blindly.

Also some people will come off as assholes (myself included) but getting your panties in a twist at every notion someone makes towards you will not get you making friends here fast. Just take any and all advice you get with a grain of salt, and try not to react like a prepubescent angsty teenager whenever someone speaks up like Kokanee has in this thread.

People need to read the FAQ's. Simple as that. Every thing you just asked is at most three clicks away. I can understand being new the sport but seriously. You said yourself that you have more expensive hobbies that included hunting... If your trusted enough with a real firearm you should have the patience and for thought to realize that you need to do a little research before buying your first gun no matter what type it is.

Not everyone has an ego here, just the guys who have politely helped others only to be smacked in the face by some 'know-it-all' who disregardes good advice. You don't have to be 'that-guy' you can take the advice, its good advice!

Sup, Bolt actions are very expensive to get the preforming well. You're looking at a minimum of $500 for high preforming upgrade internals (not counting the barrel, hop-up unit, ect ect ect.)

^--- Toy gun that's worth more than my Car.

Sniping is nothing like it is in video games... being a new sniper without the mentor ship of an experienced sniper... you'll get sick of it VERY fast... Your gun will shoot no better than any other AEG, and they'll be able to put out 20 shots when you can put out only 1.

Get an automatic-electric-gun (AEG), learn how to move and sneak around first... and eventually (after about 2 years of playing or so) pick up a bolt action and work on getting even sneakier (I played a couple games with only a rubber knife to work on silently approaching people... I ended up getting 3 kills this way )

Haha reading the FAQ
"Now, most people who start out probably want a sniper rifle to begin with, and I will strongly DISAGREE with the choice. The reason being that the stock sniper rifles are not any more accurate than a regular AEG. It would require you to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade to make it even half descent on the field. Beginners will be very lost while looking for upgrade parts, and will also have trouble upgrading the rifle"
