You wanted something for the house and cottage and I gave you something that will outperform even an upgraded to the tits PTW and do it for significantly less.

Even a cheap $130 Daisy Powerline will dollar for dollar beat any airsoft gun out there for plinking targets, both in accuracy and power.

If you don't want to go Anschutz then RAP4 makes an AR15 styled .177/4.5mm pellet/BB gun and will hands down beat pretty much any airsoft gun out there.

.
I recommend the Daisy Powerline 953 single stroke pneumatic rifle. Because it has no recoil it's very accurate.

Alright lets put this in a symple way.

- If you want an M4 springer, walmart and Canadian Tire are your only options.

- If you want an AEG, there are cheaper, full metal, and better quality alternatives on the retailer section of the classifieds.

- If you want something just for target practice, an airgun is far supperion than any airsoft gun in every single way.

Is that clear enough, or do you want me to explain it to you with some drawings ?

Spring pellet guns have a 2 way kick to them that's why you don't see them used in Olympic air rifle shooting. They also brake scopes designed for firearms.

Compressed gas rifles have no kick and are perfected for competition shooting.

recoil occurs before the pellet leaves the barrel

Recoil occurs AFTER the projectile leaves the barell. At least in real firearms anyway.

No, he's right. For spring airguns, there is recoil before the pellet leaves especially if its a <500 gun. The spring jerks the gun pretty good. Its where all the recoil is coming from anyway.

It's not really recoil though if you want to pull out the dictionary.

There is a big piston in some air rifles, the piston moves forward and comes to an abrupt stop at the end of the cylinder. That translates to the rifle jumping forward in your hands vs. backward like in rifle using a propellant charge.

That sharp forward snap is what kills the optic as they're built to withstand an impulse of force traveling in the other direction.

Back on topic there was an actual M-16 style pump up air rifle at the local gunshow this weekend. It looked truly awful.
