I'll probably use some parts from my mechbox now but I'll be buying pretty much everything for a new gearbox from the ground up. I want the most reliable parts possible. I intend to try to open the box only annually. (if thats even possible) Thanks in advance everyone.
Seriously, since you're going to have to replace pretty much everything, you should just buy a complete SystemA box. Sealed at the factory by them, and SystemA actually has decent QC unlike most of the other manufacturers. I would bet serious money that a SystemA box will run smoother and for a longer period of time than anything you put together yourself using a hodge-podge of aftermarket parts. If for any reason you don't want to go the SystemA route, I'd recommend buying every component from a single company anyway, probably SystemA...

The quality of the charger is even more important than the quality of the batteries. Expect to spend at least $75 on a good charger. I recommend the Duratrax Pirhanna, or any TLP charger.

If you're firing 400FPS with .2s, you'll be a decent amount lower than 360 with .3s. That's why it's important to test and find out what the best BB weight for your own purposes is... penetration and wind resistance may not be as important as time-to-target for you, but only you can make that decision.

on the opposite end of the spectrum from this, is there a kit available to turn a standard MP5 into an MP5K? I do like the MP5, but I prefer a shorter gun for playing in thick brush.

1: Check your post dates. You're the first one in this thread for about 3 years.
2: MP5s and MP5Ks are completely different. One's a V2 and one's a V3. The recievers, cocking tube, and internals are all completely different. You can't turn one into the other.

1. Sorry, I just woke up and had a random thought.
2. That's all I needed to know.
