Why not both? A tag with several different ratings. Maybe 3 or 4 levels - Basic (v2 & v3), advanced aeg(blowback, All versions mechbox, lipo ready, full builds.) PTW, GBB.
Who is this singular hack that everyone is referring to? Better not be me. On Brian's scale, I think I'd fit somewhere between doc and technician. Having 10 guys with at least 2 years in vouch for you would be appropriate. It would be good for the doc's business and good for the community. Too many people think they can build a gun. Even if you are mechanically inclined and well-reserched, there are alot of things that come from experience. A good gun doc has already made their expensive mistakes on their own guns.

Therre has been a Gun Doctor section on these forums for years and years, not sure why I keep reading that there needs to be a section made.....
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18 And in my honest opinion if there is going to become a new section for paid gun techs created then just like retaillers there should be a monthly subscription fee for their advertising. After all the section will create more work for the site admins and mods, as we know there will be people bitching and shit in it once repairs are done and customers have issues. And like retaillers they are advertising their services for profit. Unless all said gun techs are going to give away their labour? Nuff said I think. |

I believe what Tys was suggesting was a "special" gundoc section in which it is controlled by credible gundocs (ie. moderated by or only approved people may reply). The current one is very helpful at times but there is quite a bit of misinformation thrown around there. Unless you've lurked there a while or understand things yourself, it's very hard to know which info and help is credible and worthwhile. I think this idea is a very good one and would be a huge credit to players to know they're getting the "right" information from reliable sources.

It is a special section though, otherwise people would just ask in general like they still seem to do anyways. |

Not asking for anything...not sure that anything's needed.
The existing Gun-Doc section works pretty good. Lots of junk one liners thrown in there, but all in all it's ok. I have ZERO issue with anyone offering up advice...tag/no-tag/secret gun-doc hand shake or not. A forum is a forum. You've got to take the bad with the good. If you think someone is completely wrong...post up. But do yourself credit and everyone else the benefit of fully explaining why (a neutral moderate tone often works) and what better alternatives are. Anyone with half a clue will be able to discern good advice from crap. If the person is so un-informed enough to differentiate crap from good advice...then it's unlikely that the advice is going to really help them anyways (although it might...and that's why we try over, and over and over and over...). Purely wrong advice, and those habitual with providing it, is/are quickly weeded out. And so (short of scrubbing it from the forum/threads), the current communal-collective system works. It'd be nice to be able to stay on top of re-organize threads...or combine similar threads (i.e. the daily "My Kraken died...what do I do now?") to help people either find the info themselves or to help those who are trying to help others (i.e. internal linking). It'd be nice...but I wouldn't want to do it for more than an hour... Tys |

I defo like the idea - I do however think we need to have sme sort of rating system for what people can work on. AEG's i can handle no probs now and most of it i have learned over the last year or 2 by messing up on my own gun and diagnosing but I'd still never touch a GBB in the gundoc sense. I know how to take apart and rebuild and install parts in hicapas but as for diagnosing i wouldn't have any idea where to start. common sense will only tell you so much! the rest comes from bitter experience lol, and its best gained on ur own gun and not somebody who's paying you to do it!

Is this a tag of current working docs? or does this include retired docs as well?
Reason I ask is wether or not the purpose is to see if the person is credible, or if this is an invite for people to PM us about work.
