Stars on the patch should be facing forward, Milan is right about the sharpie.
Why not velcro the Contour on your helmet?

Ahaha yeah you're probably right... I tried something and, well... I failed^^ Do you guys think it'd be better if it was just more centered on the velcro, or just "not there" altogether? Then what would you suggest instead? (leaving it empty is... very empty, and with the HL1 the flag doesn't fit there).

Just personal preference... lower snag hazard, lower profile, possibility to use it with just a baseball cap and easier to adjust the aim with the Contour mount.

I want that AOR Patagonia jacket too!
I'm starting to really dig that patern. Better looking than Marpat.

Conker, the ContourHD will be very easy to aim if you attach it with velcro on your helmet. And it's not really snagging. If it does, the mount will pop off and the camera will hang by the lanyard. It's no problem. The velcro is stronger than the mount itself.

Why should (are, on actual soldiers) the stars forward facing? Just wondering.

The stars are forward because the flag always advances and never retreats.

It took some time though for left and right versions to be made so you'll see pictures with fellows that have stars forward and back.

Even right now, they are quite commonly seen backwards in combat situations. It'll just be depending on availablity... if the guy got a forward patch he doesn't use, he'll use it wherever he needs to, it still does its job for IFF.

That being said, some units are more strict on that than others, ie Rangers (never ever seen the flag the wrong way) while it's not uncommon with SEALs or MARSOC.
