I'm at about $950 so far and it's still not all the way there. However, with a new outer barrel and possibility of a good TRIAD replica, I'm almost there...

I don't have the barrel yet, but look back a page or two in this thread. Someone posted a pic and info on a heavy outer barrel. That's the one I plan on getting eventually.

I'll add a note here to the right-handed players that want to install an ambi mag catch for the sake of looking authentic. They're a pain in the ass.

I have one installed on my M15 rifle and I used the gun in a game on the weekend. Once you've got your vest all loaded with mags, hanging the gun on you with a sling, you mag catch will constantly get pushed in if you rub the gun against your mag pouches, causing your mag to drop out of your gun. I had this happen 3 times over the course of a day. Luckily, when actively playing in the field, I have both hands on the rifle and holding it away from my body, so it's not really an issue. But it could conceivably happen.

So yeah, that's my take on it. If you want the gun to look authentic, then the ambi catch is mandatory. However, if you want practicality over cosmetics and you're right handed, it may not be the best choice. If you're left-handed, then it's not a problem at all.

It's a constant problem with the real one as well. I've seen some C7A2s (in Canada even) that have the old style charging handle and mag release for the same reasons you've mentioned.

C8 Body....

Honest John...I'd love to get a C8 Body. I'm modding a JG M4 S-System to a C8...started with a cheapy pistol grip and A can of Green Camo Krylon. This gun has a flip up front sight, where would I source a conventional front sight?

All the A2's issued to my platoon had the ambi-mag release, as for the oversized charging handle, all of them broke by the end of the course and were replaced with the old-style handle.

I have an ics m4, I sanded the Olympic arms lion and other trades off and took it to someone that dose laser engraving, although I never did actually go through with having the engravings done, (I will one day) the guy said he could defiantly do that for me. just something to think about if your buying a tm gun upgrading to a metal body all the other work. you could get a ics m16 sand the receiver with fine sand paper to remove the trades and take it to someone who dose laser engraving. make sure to have high res pics or the diemaco receiver to show him exactly how it will look as well as a rough size of them. the receiver is according to ics aluminum but double check and wala you have a custom made diemaco receiver.
What would it say on the side of a C7A1/C7A2/C8? i googled it but didn't get and hits that we accurate. (the engravings Example. "Colt Services Canada C7A1")
