Double-Stack 1911s
As I'm kinda dreaming of building myselft a Kimber Warrior or Desert Warrior-style 1911 some time in the future, I was wondering if those were single or double stack; would a KJ-05 (double-stack) be a good base?
Else, which 1911 series would you suggest to base this build off? BTW, MEU(SOC) are single-stack right? Thanks! EDIT: I read that an HiCapa would fit in a Glock Safariland 6004... Is that true? Would it also fit a single-stack 1911? (as there's no 1911 replica 6004, but Huang's 6004 for Glock seems a good bang for your buck).

Kimber Warrior and Desert Warrior are all 1911 / single stack 7+1 type pistols.
KJ-05 is a double stack 2011 type pistol. Although from the same family tree, it is somewhat a different beast. The internals are the same, yet are different. Build it as how you would want it to be. Just understand the differences between the 1911 platform and the 2011 platform. As for whatever you read about the Safariland 6004.... no idea where you read that, but the 2011 / double stack type "tactical" builds that I've been creating have fit in to a Springfield Operator / Kimber Custom 1911 5" BBL type Safariland 6004 holster with no problems. A Glock is quite a different platform. |

Thanks ILLusion, that's the kind of complete answer that helps!
So I'll keep that in mind and will probably start with a MEU. I'm sure there are real Safariland for 1911 and 2011-family, however when I'll be able to get my 1911 I'll still be a student and while there's not much money I can save on the build itself, I can still save a 60$+ by getting a replica Safariland, as Huang's seems quite good. But he only has Glock and Beretta 92 6004, no 1911. A google search for "1911 replica 6004" brought me to a France-Airsoft forum topic where someone says it fits. Sure, Glock and 1911 aren't the same beasts at all, but it did fit in the holster without falling, so it seems to me that it's quite a good compromise.

Ultimately, if you want to build a Kimber Warrior, you can just buy a Western Arms Kimber Warrior or Desert Warrior as the cheapest route. However, WA has several downsides... expensive mags and very hard to find replacement parts if things break. It's also not metal to start - you'd have to do conversion kits to get it to full metal, but if you don't want to mess with all that, it's good to right out of the box.
However, as a gaming piece, I'd recommend building it off a Marui Colt M1911A1, seeing as how you would have to switch all of the controls anyways. Neither the Colt M1911A1 nor the MEU have the proper control types to create an accurate replica. Because of that, it's cheaper to start with the older Marui 1911 model (it's a cheaper gun vs the MEU) and then do a full conversion. |

btw, do you know if MEU controls works on a the PGC Kimber Warrior kit for MEU?

I haven't tried yet, but I don't see why not. I also did the PGC conversion kit for the MEU, and everything pretty much dropped right in.
The PGC kits are built pretty nice, but the finish is kind of a semi-gloss. Very similar to the original Marui finish. I prefer Nova's matte finish more. |

Nova's finish is also quite durable...PGC also doesn't use grip bushing like the Nova kits I believe....
I have ordered some Proud RS style grip bushing for real grip screws(also ordered some from Cocobolo). Apparently the RS grip bushing fits the Nova/Prime kits, but the Proud one has a slightly smaller shoulder than ensures it'll fit with any RS grip. |

Yes, PGC uses a strange way of applying the grip screw nut... it's free-spinning, so you can never really get a solid and hard attachment of the grip screw to it.
Where did you get the Proud RS style grip bushing? Would be interested in trying that with my Kimber Warrior since it's using real grip panels right now which sit out a tiny bit. |

UNC have it....What grip panel you have right now? You might consider just getting the Kimber grip bushing for it....You'll obviously need the screws too since TM screw is much smaller than RS.
