Painting upper receiver.--> What to do?
I'm planning to paint my upper receiver black and i was wondering, what type of paint do i use to get a matt finish? Do i need to sand it first? If so, what grit? Can someone help me duracoat it if possible? Thanks!

first give it a coat of degreaser to clean it up, then light sanding and finally krylon flat black paint 2 or more coats it will seem dry after about ten minutes but let it sit over night.

I painted a couple *crap* soft lol....
I coloured the insides with a permanent marker, sanded the outside, washed it, then painted it with krylon camo flat black.... From what I noticed, you need like no painting skills compared to other spraypaints hehe... Just my opinion though, it seems its so much easier to paint with krylon camo flat black than other spraypaints I have used.... Just don't touch the part you sprayed at all for like minimum 5 minutes, after it is dry enough to lightly touch and turn over or whatever you wanna do :P Left is crappy Walmart Springer Middle is painted crappy Walmart Springer Right is KWC CO2 sp2022 with metal slide Krylon Camo is cheap and really easy to paint, probably spray it twice... or more if you want... If you ever do scratch it, it will still be black if you coloured underneath it... And you can always just lightly spray it again to cover it up lol... Does no one "bake" it on anymore with the aerosols?
With the method I was taught: 1. Wash with dishsoap (a clean base material is key) 2. Rough up the surface with a scotch brite pad. (to let the paint adhere to) 3. Dry off. (Pretty obvious, lol) 4. Put a LIGHT base coat on. When painting, don't worry about covering it in one shot, multiple coats will give you a far greater effect. It will also prevent runs. 5. After you get the coverage you desire, use a Matte clearcoat (2-3) for durablility, let each coat dry- follow #4 for the proper method- LIGHT coats! 6. Turn the oven on to the LOWEST setting- you don't want to bubble the plastic OR paint. leaving the door open at the top to "control" the excess heat. You only want to warm the layers, not get them bubbling hot to deform the plastic. (Mot much more that 5 minutes- remember- you want to warm the paint, not scorch it!) If you want pics or an entire tutorial, lmk and I can pm them to you. Mod |

LOL yeah I used to bake Found no need with the Krylon Camos though... doesn't seem to get sticky or anything! Settles in really nice compared to other spraypaints I've played with @.@
But yeah, for regular aerosol spraypaint baking helps get rid of the stickiness... and don't leave it unattended as I once ran away and forgot and ended up with melted plastic T.T And everyone should know not to overspray |

Oh i forgot to mention. My upper receiver is metal. I believe its a sort of aluminum.

Works well with aluminum, we ave painted many paintball markers that way.
If it's bare, use the same method as above, just use a an aluminum primer as your first coat. Mod |

I would just lightly scuff it with the scotchbrite pad and lay your base colour on it my self. the factory paint will act as your primer.
Good luck, and please post pics after you have done it. I love seeing others paint jobs. I love Multicam ones, but the natural is a close second. If you watch the movie shooter after the characters go shopping you will see a quick shot of them doing the natural paint job with the paint. Mod |

1) lightly scuff the entire upper including its small corners 2) spray base coat on and let it dry 3) Keep spray layers after each layer dries 4) let each layer dry for minimum 5 mins b4 touching and let it sit over night Is that it? |
