M16s and longer barrels

Hi all,

I have a simple question:

Does it degrade the performance of a M16 (400fps+509mm barrel) if I put a 650mm tightbore on to it?

Thanks

Before I answer your question, I would like to ask you a question.

Can you think of any possible reasons as to why there would be performance degradation if one were to increase the length of the inner barrel?

Ah, I was thinking the cylinder might not have enough pressure to push the BBs out the longer barrel therefore decreasing the FPS. It was just a hypothesis so the chances are I'm wrong, but thats why I'm asking the question right?

You'd need a bore-up kit.

LOL I was actually right . So a bore-up kit (Which means a larger cylinder and stuff right?) will to the trick...

Thanks for all your help

The other thing to consider (other guys feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), but if the barrel is long and you're shooting full auto, possible you'll get the piston retracting before the BB is out of the barrel.. this would degrade performance, no?

That's what the boreup kit is for
It's all the same problem.

thats called suckback, while it does affect it, the affect is generally very minor and unnoticable (depends on what length your going from and to). Ie MP5k to PSG1 barrel will have significant suckback, while M4CQBR -> M4 uses the same ported cylinder etc and has almost no difference.
