Hi capa maintenance - oil/lube
just replaced the hop-up rubber, light weight BBU and hammer set for my hi capa.
Just wonder, which part should / shouldn't I oil or lube it? Some said should oil outside the hop-up rubber, some said leave the hop-up dry..? Also, should I oil inside the loading nozzle, and the o-ring of the BBU? Last edited by Hata; December 24th, 2009 at 12:54.. |

if you use Green Gas (propane with lube already added) or propane with a drop of oil every mag or so...it'll blow enough oil up into the assembly without you having to oil anything.
You might want to apply some light grease to the rails...rack it a bunch of times and strip it down...see where you put too much grease and adjust as necessary. In the hammer/sear setup...I usually lightly grease the bushings for the sear/hammer. Tys |

How about hop-up rubber? Do I have to put tiny bit of oil outside the rubber?

No Green gas and lubed mags will do the job of lubricating your hopup

One quick question :
Aside from grease, is silicon oil safe to put on rail and hammer setup? |

you can lube the rails with a q.tip dipped in silicone oil.but nothing crazy, it shouldn't be oozing all over.
as for the hammer bits, with silicone oil mixed into your propane you should get enough lube blown around. grease is better though

Silicone oil is only good for keeping orings/valves moist. I doubt it's helpful for metal on metal areas, and that's where grease comes in.

you betcha Mr. SF, but silicone oil beats no lube at all though.
I've used the ARS sticky G ,and Guarder teflon grease, you can also use white lithium grease from CT but it breaks down a little quicker it seems. you can lightly grease all the metal on metal parts I've also used the ARS silicone grease to lube all my o rings and have found more long term reliability, though I will now give my GBB a regular silicone oil O ring bath as i hate going to an unused GBB only to find leaks all over. Once a ring has dried you can revive and use it but they seem to need more maintenence and predictable future failure, particularly in the gas chamber seal that's why adding a little silicone oil every so often to you propane fills is a wise idea

no damage,
too much oil will leak out all sorts of crevaces and make your gun look like a fat greasy guy on a hot day oil will also move around, grease will stay put and lubricate where the wear happens,
