Verification + Boarder Question

Hi there, I'm just getting into the sport of Airsoft and I have 2 questions I couldn't find the answers to.

I'm thinking of moving in with a friend who lives in the US, in and around a year from now. And I'm wondering if the same law applies with taking an Airsoft rifle to the US as it does bringing one into Canada. I know that it's illegal to ship them into Canada, but what about the other way around? Will I just have to enjoy spending money on a new rifle for around a year then sell it before I move, or is it possible to take it with me?

And for the last question, I'm over 18, but haven't bothered to go get a BC ID or my Drivers License, I know a lot of you are gonna say "Just go get a BC ID, it's cheap and doesn't take that long to obtain" But if I was to approach a verifier in my area with say a carecard or birth certificate (maybe even both?) and my school ID that has my name and picture, would that be sufficient to get verified? Or do I HAVE to have a BC ID or Drivers License, It's just that every time I remember to actually go and get the card I don't have the money for it and vice versa.

Thanks for your help.

You should be able to take an airsoft gun into the USA from Canada.

You will require a piece of government issue photo ID for verification. Aside from a driver license, a passport or a PAL would work as well.

I think you will have to paint the flash hider/outer barrel of your replicas orange because US laws for airsoft requires a 6mm (minimum, I think) of blazing orange on the buisness end of the barrel to distinguish it from a real firearm. (if you want to be legal)

if you are moving to the states, sell your stuff here and buy it there for cheaper.

if you do take your guns down there, make sure to observe the local laws which may or may not require an orange flash hider. check with your friend before you go. that includes any states that you might pass through and get possibly checked/inspected. (more of a precaution than anything)

Some of you guys are so smart in Canada, wish even 1/10 of the new players down here were...

Coachster is absolutely right.

At the border have an orange tip on it, that is even if they ask. If they ask if you have a Firearm...say, "no", unless you really do. If you get inspected, let them know "as" they are going through your vehicle that you have a Toy Airsoft gun...then let them open the bag/case and see the orange tip on it.

When you get to your destination...take the tip off and put on a non-painted hider. In most locales...an Airsoft gun is considered a Firearm or a BB gun. Those items are not allowed to have an orange tip.

And if you move to Texas and you don't have have an Airsoft gun..the local community there will give you a UHC Super 9 until you do get one.

Just keep in mind that any guns you bring into the US you won't be able to get back into Canada on your return. So it would make more sense to leave the expensive guns in Canada and getting equipped with their cheap guns down there, and then getting rid of those in the US before coming back to Canada.

But yeah, it's been covered. If you want to bring an airsoft gun into the US, make sure it has a blaze orange tip, as that's one of the requirements for importation into the US.

I did my verification with my BCDL. If you have a passport or something that would work but AFAIK it has to be photo ID to prevent someone from taking their older brothers ID or something and claiming to be them (although if you look close enough to an older sibling there may be a chance that gets missed but if/when people do find out you were circumventing you'll get your status revoked and maybe put on the "do not verify list").

Also passport shouldn't be hard to get since you may be moving down to the US anyways and you'll need one.

I know it takes some time for a passport application and mailing it to you but that's the only other way I can think of that doesn't require BCID or BCDL.

Not to nitpick as this is a common mistake, but it's border not boarder, a boarder is someone that pays for room and board in a dwelling, I see this all the time and it bothers me. Carry on with the thread

pretty sure you need a passport for the border anyways.

Haha you're right pusangani, but it was like 3am when I wrote this xD

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it. I might just leave it here with a friend like Crunchmeister said, because then when I do come back to visit I can play haha.

But yeah, thanks again everyone!

-Edit-
Oh and I'm also wondering, I was thinking of getting an ICS M4A1. it holds the battery in the hand guard, and I'm not very fond of the solid hand guard. Would it be possible to open the whole thing up and move the wiring around so the battery stays in the crane stock, or is it staying in the hand guard?

It has the general solid hand guard, and I was thinking of switching it for a RAS hand guard.

Thanks again for all your help everyone, I really appreciate it.
