ok, higher weight (.36's +) would have fewer anyway, but when they do it would still have an impact due to gyroscopic instability.

basically no, there is no great reason for 8mm.. you could also argue that it's more likely to be deflected as well as being more expensive and harder to find.

all i can say is, try being shot at by someone with an 8mm rifle and you'll come to understand why someone would want one (it's a 'hate it until you try it' thing)
I guess it's more important to point out the brands of 6mm BBs available to us, since you are in Cyprus and are limited to X number of brands, and I've tried everything from Straights to SGM to BB Bastards, and the Bastards are by far the best I've experienced and tested with. The bubble size, count and location is almost virtually eliminated with them as the weight goes up.

Here's a pic I took during my Bastard testing, as you can see, as the weight went up, the bubble structure reduces in size and stay in the center. The 0.36g (no pics) and the 0.40g BBs I've tested after these four weights, literally have no bubbles at all.

I was really splitting hairs to give valid but maybe not relevant reasons for 8mm, but a big thank you for that picture, it was very informative!

in anything that needs it, i stick to the old stock of grandmasters i have (.29) i need to move onto something a bit heavier, apart from bastards (that i won't be able to get, unless it's a big order due to shipping cost making small orders uneconomical) what would you recommend within the .3-.4 range?

cyprus isn't bad for getting BB's in, just need to ship everything in yourself!

Just run Madbull .43s
They are a really decent BB in my experience.

The mental impact of heavy BBs is fantastic regardless of their caliber.

Even 0.36g from a GBB hitting something solid like a plywood wall near a guy will scare him shitless! I know, I've done it!

im thinking a mod from a m4 to make this but caose its a big gun i want big bb's.. i know lots of disadvantages with the whole hop up thingy but if i make a specially designed barrel that can be replaceable to adjust for my hop up i.e moe spin on inside or something along them lines could that bypass the whole hop up deal? pic kinda like this when done hopefully..

turning an m4 into an AS50 is a pretty huge task,

it's skeleton (besides the DSR's bullpup design) looks VERY similar to a DSR -1 that may be a better base gun to build off of,

take the bolt out, hollow out the inside, fit a ver7 gearbox in, take the forestock and cut it down to expose the same amount of barrel etc

Some really basic types of hop up units (fixed ones) have a slot cut in the inner barrel, and use various sizes and thicknesses of O-rings to generate hop up. Minigun comes to mind, as well as 40mm shot shells, the O-ring is positioned to do what a hop up rubber does. Mind you, sealing the breech with the nozzle will give you another issue to sort out, but at least you now know how to put a basic backspin on a BB.

i don't know if you realise the scope of what you're suggesting :P

it's feasable to create an 8mm AEG, but it's basically new territory and i'd only say 'go ahead' to someone with engineering in the blood and alot of experience.

it is very possible that you'd have to machine a new cylinder head and air nozzle, as well as modifying the tappet plate and the front of the gearbox to take the new nozzle.

these are things that could leave you with a 'broken' gun that can't shoot for crap AS WELL AS costing a fortune to fire (ok, with 8mm bastards this is a moot point but it's not going to be a 'cheap' project.

at the end of the day it's your life but be warned, this project sounds like a time and money trap of the highest order.

Just FYI...Marushin also makes a .27 8mm BB. It flies like a whiffle ball without proper spin on it.

the benfit would be: Semi-auto only and _small_ magazines or you'll go broke quite quickly (8mm isn't cheap)

Psychological impact? LOL. OH NO AN 8MM BB instead of a 6MM.. RUUUUUUNNNNNN.

i have access to a full cnc machine to help with my computer cuts and whatnot i just need to make spec measurements and an idea on what i need.. then i make and test.. i figure for the price of a new gun whynot make one no-one else has.. and 8mm imo = fear.. and i gonna use it only on semi auto, with the length of the barrell and whatnot i dont want any other issues with barrel suck or nothing..i realize its not gonning to happen in a week or two i expect this project to run me a few months.. when i actually get to the building stage.

We joked about building a Barret .50, shooting 8mm, with each round using a single c02 cartridge as it's reservoir. $0.51 cents per trigger pull. Retarded FPS. Loud as all hell. Smiles a mile wide.
