Anyways, when I said shiny, I just meant a nice, professional finish. I haven't decided whether I want it to look old or new. It'll be an adventure either way. I'll probably take your word and get some shellac. Just more practice for my future guns |

As promised, here's what I managed to get done today.
I got the lower foregrip done, and now both are stained and painted. Kokanee, I took your idea and used something similar. My Dad had some of that stain and finish in one in the garage so I used that. It was something like Honey Oak I believe. It's not shellac, but it did the trick. After that they were sanded with 2000 grit, then sprayed with three coats of clear coat. The result: The perfect colour, finish, and grain! I can't keep my eyes off of it. I started the stock as well, seen in the first picture. The plan is to shape it then hollow it out as best as I can with a drill and chisels. I'm impressed with the shape so far. In addition to all of this, I re-painted the gun to get rid of that fugly attempt at gunmetal. This time, Krylon Ultra-Flat Black. Yummy. This one's from before I reassembled the gun. You can see the beautiful grain and colour. Really matches the dark black. You can't really tell in the picture, but the slits in the lower piece are a tad too low. It's nothing big, but combined with that nasty router accident in the bottom left corner, it's not perfect. It's not too bad. LARGER VERSION Last edited by BGrail25; September 2nd, 2010 at 01:38.. |
