Making several on the other hand.......

Its one thing to say "It cant be that hard" and another to actually do it.
Send me one, I will do it.

Talk to donster, after all hes the one who wants the mod.

Id definately be impressed if you can get a reliable mag working.
Theres already enough problems with AEG's, last thing id need is an unreliable mag that jams.

I have cut down a few and the lower profile is cool. I found cutting out the middle section is best but does present the problem DarkAngel described because the mag internals are an odd shape. Basically an inverse "S" shape with a straight channel at the front and rear of the mag. Once you cut it down you can easily convert it to just a "U" shape which holds plenty of BBs.

Actually, thats a great idea. Making a U shape would definately make it alot easier.

Actually this will be my project for this winter too...

I have never mod a mag before but will see how it turns out. I am thinking to hold the bbs from 8 or 16 rds. So the height of the mag will be a little shorter than the original size for 10rds.

I don't even know what to call once I finished the mag for the socom m14. Any thought guys?

One thing while I think of it - The original mags I converted had a port on the bottom of the mag at the rear to install the spring. I made a new port at the top rear to accomodate the "U" internals. I don't think you need to do that if you are using single stack lowcap because the spring is slim enough to install through the feed port...
I gave up on getting the double stack mags to run and converted them to single stack which now feed reliably. Had to reduce the width of the interior channel and use a spring from an broken lowcap. Would be a lot easier if you could just buy short M14 mags. Maybe someone makes them now?

Unfortunately, noone makes them.

I agree on the double stack point though, double stack mags tend to have feeding issues very commonly, slight imperfections cause rounds to get jammed inside the mag.

Single stacks make feeding ALOT more reliable.
