new or used?

hey guys. im in the market for my first gun, an m4, and i find myself torn between buying one new or one off the classifieds. Im av'd and im lucky enough to work 5 blocks away from capital airsoft so both are fairly easy to do. Should i take the risk and buy used or should i buy new amd spend more money?

depends
new guns have the advantage of not having anything wrong with them (lemons excused) but come with a gun+hicap+cheapo battery+cheapo charger
used guns run the risk of breaking quickly, but most of the time come upgraded, and with a bunch of extras.

usually boils down to price and package

if your thinking about used.
make sure to have everything listed in terms of upgrades (brands used)
any problems encountered during the use
roughly rounds shot through
and age of the gun

And if you are thinking used, for your own sake please use the "search" function in the forums and read the reviews. 1 night of reading will save you hours and hours of headaches that could have been avoided. Don't be afraid to ask question about any ad you are responding to and read read read.

EDIT: if you see and ad in the classifieds click on the users name and look at there other posts to see if they've asked questions about possible problems with the exact gun they are trying to sell. I should have done that before I bought my GLOCK 26A and I would have saved myself the headache of trying to find a part that is VERY hard to find.

Cheers,
FACE

TM is solid and so is ICS, but you can pay a few more bucks and pick up something that is much better than ICS.

Not too familiar with TM AEG's I only have TM GBB's and an ICS AEG. Look around and see what others are saying. Go all metal if you can afford the extra, plastic lowers tend to crack, but there are upgrades and replacements. ICS is great for it's split mechbox. Makes it easy for upgrading or downgrading your FPS. Need to buy extra upper for that, not too expensive though.

I love my TM Glocks for my back-up. Solid make, but they use plastic slides and outer barrels. If you can get past that then you're set.

A lot of people swear by TMs for GBBs, but for m4 style AEGs, they're not the best (especially for the price they are). Most people would recommend G&P, Classic Army, King Arms or VFC for an m4.

I just got a brand new src. However, my piston broke after only 1000 bb shot. Today, i know i could have bought a used tm for about the same price. Did my choice was a mistake ? Probably not, but i could had been more patient before making a choice. So take your time, don't be impulsive and you should make a good descision!

Here are a few ASC links that might help you out...

For my first AEG I researched who the good manufactures were/are and found who/where in Canada these parts were available and built my first gun... I did this to educate myself in the mechanical operation of AEG's and I am better for the experience.

Generally a TM AEG is awesome as a first piece - they are pricey but well worth it in regard to out of the box performance, longevity and upgrades available - it will last as long as you care for it.

Just take your time when looking at anything used or new and search the forums - there is a mass of knowledge here.
