My gears work perfectly and can pull the tappet plate back, but the piston cant be pulled back. Any suggestions on what to do?

Start out by posting what kind of AEG you have and all changes that have been made to the gearbox. The easiest guess would be be a stripped piston.

If you know for a fact that your gears work perfectly, then I take it you took apart your AEG. Check to see if there's anything wrong with the piston and make sure there's nothing obstructing the cylinder. Either that or get a new battery.

I've adjusted AOE, added dampeners to the cylinder to piston head and reshimmed the gearbox. Its a version 2 for m4. It was well before, but I opened it recently to rewire the gun.

What brand gun?
What brand upgrade parts, if any?
What kind of motor?
What kind of battery?

You really need to post more information. Maybe some pictures.

You REALLY need to be more specific. Does the motor move/ make any noise at all? Have you tried a different/higher voltage battery?

Using a 7.4v LiPo, I think 25C. Stock AIM motor, spins fine. Can cycle the tappet plate. SRC drop in gearbox.

does the piston move freely when you slide it without a spring?

remove the spring and tappet. spin the gears by hand and see where it is binding on the piston.

take pictures.

what do you mean by "added dampeners to the cylinder to piston head"?

I'm betting your AOE is still off.

Ok, I checked the piston and the first tooth (big one) was worn down by a bit. I'm guessing thats the reason, so I'll just buy a new piston. Thanks for all the help.

If the first tooth is worn, your AOE is out. It means the first tooth of the sector gear is not engaging properly with the piston and a new piston might not solve your problem. and if it does solve the problem, it'll be a temporary bandaid fix.

again, what do you mean by "added dampeners to the cylinder to piston head"?

I take it that the dampers are some type of cushion glued behind the cylinder head. That will most certainly change the AOE of not adjusted properly.
