Well L96 Upgrades
Hello all
I've been doing airsoft for about one and a half or two years now, I own a Well L96 sniper rifle as well as a G&G M16. The G&G is fantastic, works wonderfully and short of maybe wanting it to have a bit more distance, I'm fine with it the way it is at the moment. Right now I want to upgrade my L96 sniper rifle. I've been digging around and doing some research, and people have said that the stock hop up is terrible, causes BB's to go astray frequently after 40-60 yards. Also the internal barrel could use an upgrade. There has also been comments as to the trigger box quite often shattering after a more powerful spring is put in. What I want to do with my gun, is increase accuracy, maybe in the future distance as well. To do this I've narrowed it down to upgrading both the internal barrel and hop up unit with PDI parts. I've successfully stripped down and rebuilt the gun on my own and it still works the way it did, so I'm confident I can manage the upgrades. I've found these parts: Hop-up Internal Barrel I measured my barrel from tip to tip and it is ~500mm give or take a mm or two. I'm fairly certain the internal barrel will work with my gun, but I'm not sure about the hop up unit, it looks quite different from the one inside my gun at the moment. Anyone help me out? Am I on the right track? Also, if someone could, what sort of maintenance should I be doing on a regular basis to my guns? Before and after every game I run a cleaning rod down the barrels, but past that I haven't done much anything. And I'm sure with disassembling and reassembling my L96 with new parts I will need to do some kind of oiling and greasing to the internals? Thanks ahead for any responses! |

OK so I found the thread for maintenance, and now realize I put this in the wrong section. Also I realized that I linked a hop up not for my gun (although it looks exactly the same as the ones for my gun... would it work? since it's in stock heh). I've been scouring the internet and every website I find is either out of stock, or they say the hop up unit has been discontinued. Through another thread on this site I found this.
The only thing is this PDI hop up unit (second item from top) looks different from the others I've found for the L96, and I'm not sure if you have to buy the o-rings separate (top item)? Last edited by Infamous0ne; April 24th, 2011 at 22:14.. |

If your current hopup is old then get the o-ring kit too.
It is an expensive piece, eh. Do you think it will give the accuracy upgrade that is worth that money? |

In my vsr10 clone I have PSS10 Air seal chamber (hop up) a tight bore, a pss10 teflon cylender, a pss10 airseal piston a pss10 sp150 spring custom barel spacers and hours of tear down and re build messin with hop up nubs n rubbers. was it worth the money, no not really, but its gettin there, few hundred bucks more maybe, and a five thousand doller scope lol. BA's are more of as labor of love, till they start lovin you back then tell the OpFor to keep their heads down lol.
http://www.tokyo-model.com.hk/ecshop/category.php?id=52 buy most of the crap on those pages you may have a decent BA with a bunch of fine tuneing and finding the right BB's lol

This is what I'm thinking of throwing in this year:
PDI Hop Up Prometheus Bucking (hard) PDI 6.01mm Inner Barrel The stock inner is 500mm, but this is noted to work in the L96 with the PDI Hop Up upgrade, should I trust that statement? Barrel Spacers x2 Giving me four to put down the length of the barrel Last edited by Infamous0ne; April 25th, 2011 at 03:49.. |

I personally prefer a Prometheus 6.03 as a tightbore. From past experience, if you want to keep the stock barrel cap, a M14 500mm barrel fits. It says for M14 only, but the PDI hop-up relies on two set screws to hold the barrel in place, so the cut-out for the plastic clip does not need to be at the same place as AEG barrels. You also only really need 2 spacers, plus the hop-up and barrel cap... Just place the spacers on the inner-barrel evenly, then add 5 turns of electrical tape on either side of each spacer. That will help you a lot in fitting it in the gun. |

also what Bb's are you using (brand and weight), this to will also make a difference in both distance and accuracy.

Here is a list of what i got for my Well L96
Hop up http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/pdi-varia...n-type-96.html Zerro trigger ( a must with upgraded spring, and my stock one is cracking after 2 years of play) http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/pss2-zero...zen-apsii.html piston set http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/pdi-laser...zen-aps-2.html my tightbore http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/Airsof...mm_p/65266.htm and 150m Spring. although i use stock spring for ASC. I use the 150m for 48 hour event. |

This would be a good substitute? Less than half the price is exceptionally attractive
I was using .25 G&G professional grade BB's, only because the .28 wasn't in stock last year, this year I have ordered the .28 professional grade G&G BB's BB's Also, Yelcpo, the barrel you mentioned is only 430mm? That's about 7CM short of the end of the outer barrel on a Well L96? Last edited by Infamous0ne; April 27th, 2011 at 02:01.. |

I installed the prometheus 6.03mm tight bore barrel, PDI hop up, prometheus hard bucking, and inner barrel stabilizers.
The only real hitch is that the piston head seems to snag on the way into the hop up chamber, the gun fires, it just seems the cylinder head is minutely out of line. I'm sure over time it would work itself to a more agreeable spot, but has anyone had the same problem? Suggestions on a fix? Also, the barrel end I ordered is too big. Suggestions on a silencer/flash suppressor set up? Can't wait to remount my scope and zero it in, just from the test shots I've fired she seems to be barking .28's where I want them to be with much better accuracy. |

Unscrew the outerbarrel (remove the set screw under it first!) and reposition the nylon ring inside the receiver.
Reassemble with the bolt in place, you should not have anymore problems with the bolt. For the barrel, it depends how long too long. If you have a 507mm barrel, you can install an L96 flash hider that will cover it. More needs a silencer. BBs above .30 is good. I found that .30 is the bare minimum to shoot in a sniper rifle. |

So I did what you suggested to no avail, the cylinder head is still rubbing on the hop up unit just ever so slightly.
I also went into the cylinder itself, added teflon underneath the o-ring on the piston creating a way better seal and also a spot of teflon on the cylinder head threads for good measure. I re-greased everything using a white lithium grease. Everything is working fine aside from it being a little rough pushing the cylinder head into the hop up. I was curious if anyone had any feedback on this upgrade. For $20 it seems like a great deal. Also I've seen mixed reviews on that upgrade, some say the spring is enough to bust off the trigger sear after 50-100 shots, others say they have put much more through and it is still working great. I don't want to drop another $200 on a zero trigger for the moment, perhaps in the future, but I don't object to dropping another $20 for a new trigger sear should the need arise. Right now the gun is shooting perfectly, aside from I would like to up the FPS so I can shoot farther now haha. |

You won't break the sears.
You will break the trigger box, which is impossible to find. Stay under 400 and you should not have any problems. The stock spring shoots about 500 just so you know. And a Modify 2 pieces piston + head cup is way better than that "kit". |
