Making an A&K M60 Skrimishable...
Most of the information on the M60 is chairsoft-ish. While it being pretty and full of fun little features, I very rarely hear what it's actual performance/reliability in the field is like.
So I'm wondering; what upgrades do you guys consider "mandatory" (beyond the obvious gearbox re-shim) to make the A&K M60 skrimishable? Thanks |

None. We fielded the A&K M60 last weekened and it performed admirably. Shooting 380fps and .30's. It's a beast.

They're both the same internally. I would suggest a battery. In all seriousness, A&K SAW's all perform extremely well out of the box.

One of the local gun docs runs one, all he did was give it a re-shim and replaced the piston (he's running a lipo on it).

It should be arriving soon, I kinda worried about its game-ability, being an A&K; I haven't had good experiences so far. What about long term reliability? Is there anything that I should expect to break soon-ish and get a replacement part lined up? |

Short and simple. Reshim like you said, proper gearbox lube. I added a 650 mm Madbull Python tightbore, and a new hopup rubber. I also modified the hopup nubbin as well, gives me really nice range and accuracy.
My M60 can zero in on a target over 200 feet away very consistently. Going to put ALOT of rounds through it, leave the spring stock, less gearbox wear, more shots off. As long as your comfy with the range, leave it be.

That's really comforting to hear, I'm even more excited now.
Did you find a huge difference in range with the new hop-up/barrel? My experience is pretty hit-and-miss with upgraded barrels/hop ups. Do you think it was worth the cost to get the extra range and accuracy out of it? |

The only issue I had with my A&K M60VN was with the hop up. The rubber was not installed properly and there was no nub in the hop up unit. The rubber was installed in such a way that a bb could not pass through the barrel. Be sure to give it a once over before you fire a round. Other than that I have no complaints.

He gave me the new CA hopup and barrel to instal. Painless installation, put in a full size nub instead of a half cut one that was in it. I ended up buying it after I shot it again... Full auto, sexy beast, lazer beam of bb's... Very adjustable range, very tight groupings, and I was using .25's, I am very curious to try .28s. God I love being a BB Bastard

I run an A&K M60E4 and don't mind it. Only issues are the seal between the hop and mechbox. Considering the front end can be removed, I've never had a good seal between the two. As well, the box mag has to be modded so the feed tube runs square with the body, or major misfires will happen.

Might wanna check the air nozzle A&K is hit and miss with theirs, you'll have some that seal beautifully and some that leak faster than a balloon.

I run an A&K M60VN... There was very poor QC on this thing.
Body screws were loose, gearbox screws were loose, poorly shimmed, the hop up unit was non-functional (had to drill the hole for the bucking, which I replaced with a piece of Bic ink reservoir tube instead of the rubber one that was stock), too many white metal pieces; the barrel retention lever broke (replaced with a metal one machined at a local machine shop), the bipod mount is currently broken (looking to replace with a real steel version if and when I find one), and the carry handle feels very weak (also looking for a real steel replacement) and finally the feed spring for the BBs was not lined up and wouldn't feed (I ended up shortening the spring and cutting a hole in the box magazine and the cover so it would line up straight)... All in all... a decent LMG once all the bugs were ironed out... would I buy another one, or would have I bought this one knowing it would be so problematic? No! If you can find them, the bipod mount is only $50US. The legs are fine, I just broke the mount...
You should take your OEM hop up and make sure that the bucking can go all the way thru the hole. Mine didn't there was a piece of white metal in the way from the cast. Then cut a piece of a Bic pen ink reservoir tube, just a little longer than the standard buck and try that. My hop up works great now because of this. |
