How active is the Edmonton, AB community? + other questions

I signed up for the Edmonton airsoft site associated with this one, but cannot post yet. I am 18 and am very interested in starting Airsoft and have another family member that is as well. Before I go overboard and start spending a bunch of money, the major question I need answered is: how active is my areas airsoft community? Are there any good sites nearby? I wouldn't want to get really excited about starting, only to end up putting my gear in storage all year because I couldn't use them. Is the community as active during the winter?

Other questions that will help me out include:

-what site do you guys normally buy from? I'd prefer guns in the 100-300 range.
-someone told me you need a permit for owning realistic gun replica's to own an Airsoft rifle, though I thought the only requirement was to be 18 years of age

Any and all answers appreciated, I plan on doing as much research as I can before starting. Currently reading the newbie guide .

$300 is the absolute bare minimum for a decent rifle.

The person who told you this obviously eats fruit loops with their a$$hole.

Edmonton is very active in the summer and in the winter as long as the temperature seems reasonable people will game.

Check out the link Fumoffu posted, you'll get more info there.

Perfect answer man that`s all I needed to know. Only reason I posted on here was because I'm having technical difficulties with that site right now.

If you signed up on EAR and didn't make an intro post, as instructed, you won't be let into the main forum.

$250-$300 will get you a meh, so-so entry level gun. It's cheap but don't expect much from it.

No permit is required, but you do need to get yourself age verified to purchase here or on EAR. Most other retailers will require a +18 signature for postal delivery.

Lucky you, you live in one of few cities with a full time airsoft retail store. Come down to get age verified, shoot the shit, and ask any questions you may have to our guys and volunteers that hang out at the store. We have a ton of inventory in stock, and a small indoor play area to kill some time in.

Get yourself AV'ed and these forums as well as the EAR forums will open up to you. Be patient and good thing will come to you. There are a number of places that you will find out about once you have access to this forum and the full EAR forum most specifically the buy and sell areas. If your buget is $300 wait until you can access the buy and sell and then you can probably get a decent deal on a reliable gun to start rather than buy a POS because thats your limit. No permits required, who ever told you that is missinformed. As far as activity once again once you are AV'ed you'll see, but I assure you there is enough to keep you busy. Welcome to the sport.
