Magpul PTS handguard fit issue

Im having an issue fitting Magpul PTS carbine length handguards to my M4. It seems they are a 1/4-1/2" too long. Is there a way to adjust this distance? Do the handguards need to be modded to fit? Is there something wrong with my gun? Lol

Most of the gun is King Arms but I believe it might have a TM front end if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

what kinda delta ring are you using (does the lips on the back go ALL the way in

and do the lips at the front go ALL the way into the plate at the front sight...

if the answer is not a resounding yes for both .. it'll never fit properly...

the delta ring must be a proper mil spec style with all the peices seperate, the funny lugged nut in the center and a full floating and moving ring on the outside.

I have the same handguard, they are a tight fit on any model. Make sure it's all the way inside the front handguard plate and pull the rear handguard ring all the way back, it should just slide inside with very little space left. If it didn't it would pop out too easily. I had a hell of a time installing mine the first time. Hope this helps

@Reckless: yup the lips fit at either end, there just simply isn't enough room. Are there shorter handguards available maybe?

@5kull: agreed. I installed em on my friends g&g and they were tight fitting there but still fit and locked in. They would indeed still fit tight if I had just a 1/4" more room

there are 3 sizes... and the difference is far more then 1/4-1/2 inch

might just be a slight difference in where your outter barrel puts the front sight/gas block?

up to you... but myself I would knock the pins for the front sight/block .. install it all as tight as possible and redrill/grind the new notchs in the outter barrel for the sight/block to sit

or you could find a new more MIl-spec outter barrel

Good idea thanks for that. I'll get to work and see how it goes.

So after some work I've realized the delta ring and front are not fitting properly. This then begs the question: where do I find a "proper" set to solve this?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Do you have the G&P style delta ring?

my ics m4a1 also had the same problem. it did, however, have a two piece outer barrel and i was able to loosen just enough to let the handguard fit in without losing any rigidness in the outer barrel.

my friends g&p was a little bit different. his barrel was a 1 piece and what i had to do is take off the front sight and replace it with an aftermarket gasblock mounted about 1/2" closer to the end of the barrel so that the handguards will fit.

one of these solutions will definitely work for you. if you have a 2 piece barrel it will be a bit cheaper though.

The problem is no longer the actual distance between the two as it seems there is room to adjust that. The issue is twofold:
1. The delta ring I currently have does not have enough space between the ring and the tines to lock iN both halves properly.
2. The front ring doesn't seem to have the right shape to engage the front guard.
I can put either single piece in but not both and yes I know t has to be put together in a certain order.

Maybe you can trim/file the front ring to acomondate the handguard

Yeah I was hoping not to have to do that.
