Really weird problem - am I the only one???

Hey guys - just interested if I'm the only person who has ever managed to do this.

I've now snapped 3 anti-reversal latch springs in the last month. I don't get how these are breaking as they are under so little stress. heres my setup - if anyone notices anything lemmi know.

modify quantum piston
Mask sorbo pistonhead, cyllinderhead.
systema type c unported cyllinder.
modify modular smooth gearset 8mm version
modify smoothset antireversal latch
guarder superhard cutoff level
raptor V2 trigger mosfet
systema a-z motor
guarder ballbearing spring-guide
modify s90+ spring

running it all on a hyperion 3300mAh 11.1v 35C discharge battery

I know its a reasonably high wear setup with the battery but I'll admit i'm scratching my head on this one - been using the gun for almost a year solid and never had to repair any part except constantly repairing the damned anti-reversal latch spring!

Any ideas? - not a big problem but bloody irritating lol

I'm gonna guess it has something to do with the Modular gearset. Because you can't shim the bevel gear lower, only a part of the arl is making contact which wears it out. If it's failing in a different area, it could be a bad cast of the arl.

same place every time - makes good contact with the gear latches and not sitting squint or off centre - no wear on the gear latches or the latch... just to be sure I replaces the latch at the same time as the spring

edit: just to be clear - it's the spring thats breaking - not the latch itself

I just re-read your post and realized you were talking about the spring. Sorry about that. It could be catching onto the bevel due to it being a bit long. Try trimming the end side that makes contact with the gearbox. Just leave enough that it holds but can't swing around to contact the bevel or spur.

Also, bend the hook end down more towards the ARL. if you can, trim that end and rebend it to hold onto the ARL tighter towards the axel. But again, I think the modular gear set is causing the bevel to sit lower or at a height that barely clears the spring.

no looking at it thats not the issue - it's breaking on the back end of the straight portion thats not touching the latch - hold on I'll upload a pic for ya.

I've had most of mine break like that, I've gone through about 4 or 5 on different guns. I've gone through as many anti reversal latch springs as trigger springs LOL
Where the straight begins is a stress point since that's where the bend stopped.
As for solutions....well...just keep buying different brand springs till you find one that works lol
Lots of stock ones break easily, used to know more about the bad ones when it was more of an issue 2 years ago.
I've had excellent luck with systema anti reversal springs though, don't think I've broken one to date.
Systema sells a whole spring kit for cheap, never know when you may need those other springs too.

yeah i have like a zillion hanging around in my handy dandy version 2 parts hamper so it's not a big deal but I'll maybe try a systema one then

Modify uses proprietary ARL's with their cage gear sets.. I remember a while ago I had one that ate a spring, and it kept doing that to each other spring I put on there... Perhaps they use a proprietary spring as well?

I dunno maybe. They are bang on measurement for measurement.

Here's something really interesting though. I turned off the active motor brake in the raptor settings and the spring was fine over 5 games this week. Turned on the braking and the spring snapped again. It didn't start breaking until I used active braking. How interesting ...
