1911 racegun vs Hi Capa 5.1

Later on in life when my airsoft budget gets higher I am considering making a high performance racegun. The major I have right now is border-wise problems. I can get the all the basic reinforced parts that are needed to make either the 1911 or hicapa work. It's just the slide and body I am concerned about. I looked up ehobbyasia http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/accessori...ody/index.html
and it seems they have a nice selection of airsoft surgeon parts. These high performance parts are made of high quality aluminium and are very light. This racegun is bound to last me a very long time. However the ability to get slides and frames over to Canada concerns me. The 1911 frame looks very similar to the real steel and it is made of a high quality aluminium. I remember a video on you-tube stating that one of the reasons airsoft can't be turned into real guns is the metal is "cheap" (basically weak enough to blow up under the stress of gunpowder and brass) And I have know idea if the customs can even tell if it is airsoft.

As the Hicapa 5.1 platform dose not have a real steel counterpart I think that the lower frame will have a bit more mercy crossing our border as the frame itself looks nothing like any real firearm frame (however I can not back that up and my gun knowledge is small so don't quote me on that) as the grip is fully made of plastic and is detached from the frame.

I would like a 1911 racegun (as its more bad ass) but if needed be I would get the Hicapa 5.1 However I did have a back up plan of assembling the gun in after I use a P.O box down in America and assembling it there. I would gauge the gun to shoot hot with a c02 mag to get it within the legal fps and try to come back!

I am assuming you are in Canada judging by the last sentence....I'd advise getting AV'ed and talk to someone like illusion for your need...

Also I am not sure the whole FPS limit work with handgun, which is governed differently to rifles for RS, not sure how that works for imitation firearm/uncontrolled firearm...

Yes they do actually. STI, SVI, and Para Ordnance guns.

In any case don't try ordering from outside Canada.

The Hi Capa is based on the 2011 styled frames and grips.

I would by far prefer using such a grip for a race gun. The large mag opening and large magwell, coupled with the tapered magazine, makes for a far easier reload than the straight-walled 1911 mag.

This is from real steel IPSC, so it may not be completely transferable to airsoft... but I sure reload my STI-styled open gun far faster than I can my STI 1911 single stack.

What you've described is 100% transferrable to airsoft, and is a few of the exact same reasons why the High Capacity 2011 platform dominates the IPSC Airsoft segment.

I have a number of IPSC shooters who've purchased customized Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa's from me to replicate their existing build for training purposes. More and more real steel shooters are seeing the value in airsoft guns as a real training tool, and not just a toy.

As for the OP,

It will be near impossible to buy all the parts required to fully assemble a 1911 off the aftermarket, as there are a number of critical parts that simply are not available. It would be easier to just buy a complete pistol as your starting base.
