Ares tar 21

Any necessary upgrades, mods, etc to the gun. Any weak parts or proprietary ones

You MAY want to swap the spring in the mag catch with a stronger one though Ares did say they were fixing that in later versions of the gun, so may be fine, if you find yourself dropping mags all the time then do that. Other than that it's a great gun stock, depending on what yours is shooting you may want to upgrade/downgrade the spring but you should be fine elsewise till something breaks.

+1 to AngelusNex!!!

Other than that make sure to downgrade the spring. The one that came in mine stripped some of the internals. Swap out the air nozzle, most m4 nozzles should fit. **please correct me if i'm wrong** Other than that a tight bore barrel.

Lastly, I finally found a good ares tar-21 dissassembly video on youtube. Its not as bad as what I had originally figured it would be. But, make sure you follow the steps!!!
Ares Tavor Tar21 disassembly - YouTube

Good luck!

**Edit: You'll get some good and bad reviews about the ares tar 21. From my experience though, its been pretty solid and has never let me down. And this thread, specifically a post by LocoYokoPoco #47 is worth the read:Edit complete**

PLayed a couple of game with the one I owned. Solide performer out of the box. Accurate gun, good range and reliable for feeding with cheap mags.
only downside was the too-easy-magrelease that is an easy fix!

I miss it.. really.

every goddamned piston/oring is crap out of the box if we think about it.. when you compare it to some upgrade stuff. Just run it stock until it breaks, then change it.
mine sealed just right and never broke on me..

True but I hear it (piston) needs to be replaced right away along with the air nozzle and o ring

I've been running mine for 2 years now and only issue I ran into was the hop up rubber tearing. It's a great gun out of the box.

Like any good thing: Don't fix it if it's not broken.

What is the relation to the S&T TAR 21? I like the gun but I havent heard of them before. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I believe they (S&T) bought the rights to make the TAVOR now. The design is different than the Ares.

To the OP:
I've owned a Ares TAR for well over a year. Change the nozzle to one with an o-ring, the seal on the stock one is terribad. It's an M4 style so it should be easy enough to find. Mine didn't seal at all, I gained a good 30-40 fps just by changing the nozzle

With the piston, you can't just use any piston (without modding), it has to be non-reinforced because of the way the gearbox is built. The back of the piston will not have enough room to retract and cycle. I used the stock for a bit, but it's a lower quality polycarbonate piston, its not bad, but not great. Right now I'm using a stock TM piston which feels a bit more solid. There are better ones out there.

Further down the line you may want to change your cylinder head. The stock one doesn't seal that great. It's the same as an Ares M60/MK43, so the only upgrade you can find is a Shooter's cylinder head (good luck, took me over a year to find one in stock).

Spring guide is a V2/V3 Ares style with the open ended gearbox. I'm using a Wii-Tech right now, but there is a Shooter one available as well.

For the mag release fix, I took a clothes line clip and used the spring in it. Now it's tight and requires a good amount of force to remove it.

Oh I had a small issue with the hop up dial not retaining it's setting, but a simple shim on the dial fixed that.

Everything else you can wait or change as you please.

EDIT
Oh and proprietary parts:
- Trigger switch (Ares style)
- Tappet plate
- Gearbox shell
- Cylinder head (Ares M60/MK43 style)
- Hop up (Ares style)
