I'm also trying to learn how to do things myself so taking it to a gun doc is the easy way out. If you wanted to do it yourself you wouldn't be on here lost as fuck.
Going at this cold is going to be all trial and mostly error. Start with something easier.
As with any hands on task the only way to learn it well is hands on with an experienced mentor; master and apprentice kind of thing.
Or you can keep on your current path.
