A&K Dragunov SVD

I bought this gun mainly because its simple and inexpensive. Overall I am very happy with it but the plastic furniture just didn't do it for me. Although the wood kits that can be bought look good, I wanted something better. I wanted that looked exotic and the only way to get it was to make it.
Once the stock is done I'll start on the hand guard. I've tossing the idea of inlaying the hammer and sickle on the hand guard. I am going to place an order with Airsoftpro for their SVD upgrades in March as well (their site says they are out of stock on some items untill mid march).

This is my progress so far and I'll update with pics as I go. Thanks for looking!

While I don't understand why you didn't go with a nice Russian Birch plywood, but kudos on your skill with shaping the stock.

Baltic birch would look like every other stock? I just wanted something you cant buy and to be original. The wood I used is Maccassar and that is the unfinished color, not something you see everyday.

Hey guys, I have an A&k SVD spring action. I was interested in putting in a foldable stock on mine. What all would be involved? Would I have to get like a AK74 lower? I can't seem to find and answers online. Could you help me out? Thanks

The receiver for the SVD-S (the one with the foldable stock) is different from the standard SVD, so fitting a foldable stock is not possible without substantial modifications to the receiver. It would be much simpler, and maybe even cheaper, to simply buy a Ares/ASG SVD-S. Keep in mind that most upgrade parts made for the A&K SVD will not fit the Ares/ASG SVD-S. It also uses slightly different mags, so your A&K mags will not work without modifications to the receiver of the SVD-S or the mags themselves.

Thanks! I figured it wasn't going to be possible. I picked this thing up hoping to convert it into a more modern AR type look. Looks like I'm asking for a whole heap of trouble and headaches.

I want to make one of these, I might have to do a HUGE overhaul of the entire upper and lowers.

Do you absolutely want an SVD? Because as far as Airsoft goes, you will have a hard time creating that. A lot of custom modifications would be needed from real steel parts.

As a close alternative, I would suggest the M14 EBR. Something like this:

That's an awesome looking m14, in fact one of my friends owns one kinda like it..the thing weighs like 40 pounds tho. SVD would be signicantly lighter, PLUS I like the bolt action spring capabilities...very raw feel, and don't need to rely on gear box/batteries. I have a AEG already a MK112 PWS socom g&g for a DMR. It only shoots around 377 fps with .2's( most games wont let more than 400 for AEGs. I'm looking for something that looks like a m14/m4 DMR that is bolt action..I don't know. Something like that probably doesn't exist. And if adding real steal parts to a gun I only payed $150 for then screw it..I'll just have to keep dreaming. Would be cool tho

The CO2 kit is very inconsistent, it is really not an upgrade. The only reason to get it is if you have arm or hand problem that prevent you from cocking it and can't afford a GBB or AEG SVD.

See more about that CO2 kit and why it should be avoided in this thread: http://www.airsoftsociety.com/forums...-thread-58026/
