The biggest problem is that airsoft guns are very easily confused with real guns. So when someone on the street, airsoft knowledgeable or not, it's really hard to tell what the threat level is (unless clearly plastic, see-through bodies), and the default setting at those situations is set to 11/10. So police coming to the scene is not uncommon: I heard a story of someone calling the cops on someone with a water gun!
In short: people should inform their kids not to be stupid and to flash their guns around- not everyone knows it's a fake.
I'm actually kinda proud of my brother for learning that from me: keeps his shiny PPSH in his box at all times unless playing with in at home or at the arena.
