So big that I've built a gun that drew the same amount of current at 400FPS as the 45 drew under no load... 8A...

ALWAYS use a neodymium 12tpa motor to power 18:1 gears on a 400fps spring.

That's like using a 5.7L twin turbo charged hemi to haul nothing and drive around like an old woman.
