Eotech Sight Protector

Hi again guys, I have a few more questions I would really like answered. I already checked google and didn't find the answers I was looking for. I recently got the Eotech 552 (replica, of course) and am looking for a good sight protector for it. The ones that go on the rails don't properly protect this sight because it has a big battery compartment so the protector would have to be way up at the front of the gun and any diagonal shot could easily hit the sight's glass. I saw that there are specific protectors for these sights on evike and torontoairsoft, but I read the reviews and they said those protectors warp your vision. Can any of you guys confirm/deny that? Is the kill flash for the Eotech any good? I've only seen pictures of it and no videos. What about custom made protectors? Are there any places that do that or would I have to go to home depot and get the lexan (or some other material) myself? How would I even measure/cut the stuff? What should I do regarding a sight protector if I shouldn't get the one that supposedly warps your line of sight?

Clearly, you guys can see I'm not very handy, so every little detail really helps! Thank you!!

Google returned a lot of information so not really sure how you didn't find your answers. You have several choices, the abundant clear model with tabs that press-fits into the sight which I have on mine and works fine. You can cut one from lexan or polycarbonate, just measure the window and cut one that can again be pressed into the sight housing and stay secured. Lastly a couple of people are making honeycomb style killflash / lens protector combos like Black Watch optics shields that again press-fits into the optic. That one would darken the sight but it's a red dot so not very critical in my opinion to view/function.

With Eotech and T1 style optics, clear protectors is the only way to go. Any cheap bb shield will last only a few hits.

Also with those thin plastic press in ones, they get shot out easily as well.

Don't worry about the side hits, it is the direct ones that break optics the fastest.

Used a universal rail mount one for a while for around $7, then changed to a press-in type for $5. Not noticing much, if any, distortion. Note that the rail mount worked just fine as it's about a 1 cm gap only.

It's not a 1cm gap, there is plenty of room for a bb.

Thanks anyways guys, I'll try out the press-in ones.

Oh yeah that's right I forgot. It's 1cm when I used a reflex sight (ok rep EOS is still reflex but I digress).

It wasn't so much the gap but the look which is why I got the press in. No pic yet.

I made a thread about this in the accessories discussion forum.
